Forums - Nintendo - Convince me to play The Ocarina of Time!!!

I guess I came late to the party...
Yeah, I kinda feel the same way you do, like paper mario series and me. Now I'm regretting for not playing ANY of them. But seriously man! This was the first Zelda game that I played and I got instantly hooked, also got me curious to play the rest of the series. Hell, there's another dude in this forum who's playing OOT for the first time, and his remarks are stunning (for a person who never got into gaming since the haydays!). But before you get to him, experience this game for yourself. ;)

i'll update tonight on what i think of the first bit

Very nice. If I may give you some advice; don't get frustrated if you get stuck, just try to enjoy the game world. It's not a race to the finish.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Dammit i'm kinda late here it seems you all have convinced him already, although that was inevitable, he really wanted to be convinced.

Surprised no one threatened his life.

it really defend on your mood to play certain game. I tried to do the same on Morrowind, playing it for the first time ever but on PC.

I second this.  Please just enjoy the game. Don't be looking for flaws etc, don't even think about comparing it to today's standards. It's an old game, keep that in mind throughout.

Ocarina of Time is the type of game you shouldn't really need convincing to play. Just get off your ass and do it. :P

Did you really need to be convinced to play the best game of all time? Seriously...

I can't wait to see what you think of it!

glad to hear you played morrowind

to me that was vastly superior to oblivion and fallout 3

just way more depth, way bigger world

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Let me be straight up with you. OOT is a little overrated. In the N64 era, Nintendo had lost all it's rpgs and fantasy games to Sony. There was a serious drought on the console of RPGs and even adventure games. Add that to the fact that people had been waiting for like 6 years for another console Zelda and it's easy to see why many, including myself, saw it as the second coming. Shoot I even skipped school to play the game. And for a long time it was at the top of my best games list.

Honestly though, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are better, but they will never reach that best game of all time status, not because they are lesser games but the context of their releases. OOT is still a good game, but ten years later you may in fact not get the feeling many gamers got when they played the first 3D Zelda game back in 1998.

Personally, I disagree entirely with Megadude. Both N64 Zeldas are VASTLY superior to the console Zeldas released since then. Wind Waker is too short, and the environments in Twilight Princess are too dull. They need to combine TP and WW for the next game if they want to bring back the feel from the N64 Zeldas.
