To really see what an accomplishment this is, I found this link where some guy tracked all the analyst predictions at the start of the generation. Nintendo demolished everyones expectations.

I think this proves all the analysts were morons. How they could have been so off I have no clue. The cheap price tag the innovative appeal the Nintendo first party catalog. So many analysts expected PS3 to win the console wars with its high price tag and lack of first or third party content.
I think Nintendo could break 100 million by 2011 when the next generation of consoles comes out. The only problem I forsee is going to happen when Sony announces their innevitable price cut. Once PS3/360 are both 279.99$ with far superior hardware that will be the only obstacle. However I think that Nintendo will continue to sell consoles at a high rate through 2011. Then once the next generation of hardware launches Nintendo will cut the Wii's price to 199.99$ then to 99.99$ and I could forsee Nintendo even beating out the PS2.
The differance between the PS2 and the Wii, is the Wii is unique with the Wiimote. Even after the next generation of hardware launches the Wii will continue to sell. And since Non-gamers are a huge part of the Wii's success a cheaper 100$ price tag will drive it into more hospital's schools and senior homes. It will continue to be a huge success even after the next generation launches.
After 2011 Nintendo could start marketing the Wii to non-gamers exclusively. With the new hardware appealing to the hardcore audience Nintendo could turn the Wii into a non-gamer phenomina. Liscense the software development out to tons of non-gaming companies. Release a couple brain training games a year maybe a WiiFit or two.
Nintendo wouldn't even have to release much first party content to keep the Wii selling like hot cakes. They could turn almost all their attention to the next generation and the Wii would pretty much sell itself.

Go wii go.
Man those analyst were so far off. I wonder how they feel about their prediction now that they can look back.
Wii heading towards 60 and beyond.
