Forums - Gaming Discussion - PAL PS3 Backwards Compatability Progress Update

If you've ever seen an emulator mature before you'll see that there are two types of games that take the longest time to become perfectly emulated, obscure games and games which use the system to its fullest. For the most part I don't think people are worried about obscure games ... Now, many of the best (or at least best looking) games on a system use all of the features of the hardware to get the best performance out of it; at the same time these developers will look for little tricks in order to get optimal performance out of the system. Some developers have found insane things (like an ability to run a process on a sound processor/input controller) that are nearly impossible to predict ... As long as they don't have perfect emulation there will be several of the best games left off of the compatibility list; on top of that I would expect that if they have 50% of the games emulated then less than 50% of good games will work.

I like backward compatability but if a console does not have it then oh well. I just think its messed up that the US/Japan have backwards compatability buy not really Europe.

Does anyone know if Microsoft has updated their supported games recently? I'm still ticked off I can't play Karoake Revolution on my 360.

Kwaad you are paying $49 for internet, you said you were paying $150. You probably could get DSL for cheaper but its going to be slower than your 3MB cable connection. Alacrist, the PS3 launches in Europe on March 23rd and no the launch units don't come with Firmware version 1.6. They have already shipped the launch consoles. Firmware 1.6 will be available at launch via download and it will most likely be included on Sony published games as well. Not sure if Sony, or any console manufacturer for that matter, puts firmware updates on 3rd party software.

Does anyone know when Sony will have the whole Home thing ready?

And you can bet they probably have the most popular ones in that batch. Eventually they will have the whole thing done and then we won't have to ever worry about needing chips from the PS3 to play PS3 games when you get your PS4. They will have the whole library on software and it will lead to lower part costs. If you don't consider God of War, MGS2, MGS3, Guitar Hero 2, Final Fantasy X-2, and who knows how many others then yes, they will have most of the popular ones in that batch.
As the other guy responded, they weren't running 1.6 which is what all the European launch consoles are supposed to be programmed with.

Using Verizon FIOS I get 20 Mbps download 5 Mbps upload for $50/month. They have a lower option of 5 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload for $40/month. Sadly, not available in all areas yet.
