Forums - Microsoft - 360's GPU undercredited?

The only people who don't understand the power of the 360 GPU architecture are PS3 fans who are technicaly not inclined. It's a lack yof understanding that a well developed software/hardware techniques can go vastly farther than raw processing. I'm not saying not being technicaly inclined is a bad thing, but if you don't know sometimes it's best not to say anything. I for example know very little about animals and accounting. I know that. So if someone starts telling or asking me about such things I will direct them to someone else.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Another thing to consider:

360 - Xenos: 11.2GB/s
PS3 - RSX: 12GB/s

(calculated ((clock speed * bits) / 8)).

The consensus on beyond3d.com from developers is that the RSX clock speed is 500Mhz. If there is a 550Mhz part, it will be due to clock domains and the shaders would be running at that speed.

The 360s architecture is much more efficient while the PS3s has more raw power. General purpose the 360 wins but with very careful and well optimized code the PS3 can take the advantage. It all comes down to how well the developer can program. But the GPU on the 360 is more powerful and also much more efficient due to the unified pipelines. GPU wise the 360 handily beats the PS3 but with good optimization of the cell the PS3 is the slightly stronger console. Also the 512 MB unified ram on the 360 is an advantage over the PS3. Ram wise the 360 wins and also GPU wise. The PS3 only is stronger because of what the cell is"capable" of doing but most developers seem to be too lazy to really harness the cell.

Not "lazy"...developers need more money to make a quality port for the ps3 and while it`s behind the 360 in sales, why bother?

I think it`s an economical issue...MS understood that and they are winning.

LOL...this looks like a nice rabbit hole...snuggle snuggle...

Wasnt the 360's GPU based on the PS3's, i remember reading an article about it- or was that the CPU

^ CPU, they are both made by IBM and they are very similar.

far from it. The Xenos is rarely discredited on this site. While the RSX isnt far behind it, it is faster and is definitely better at using shaders.

What does "better at using shaders" mean for you?

(especially considering unified shaders are universal now, after they premiered on the 360)
