Forums - Gaming - Demos, how have they effected to you?

I have only been let down by demos, well since Ps1-Ps2 time..

Killzone2, Red factions and other demos, it would have been better that they never came.

I usually like demoes. Not necessarily that the demoes are good, but I like that they can show me the game.

And it's only some times that a demo affects whether or not I will buy a game. I actually decided that I should get Red Faction: Guerilla for cheap at some point because of the demo. The combat wasn't great and I didn't give a crap about the story or the objectives, but I had great fun just destroying stuff! It was awesome

I loved the Red Faction demo. That made me want the game.

Anyway, I mostly can tell if the game in itself is fun or if it's a bad demo. For the most part I really enjoy most of the demos I play.

I was pretty let down by the latest Chronicles of Riddick demo. I had read such good things about the first one that I never played so I was looking forward to trying it out. I was left really unimpressed and now have zero interest in that game.

people,

they get the demo, they bitch

they don't get the demo, they bitch

we are never satisfied.

It's only a demonstration, i don't make my decision on that alone, it's just a gift.

The demo only covered the new mission on Athena though, as far as I know, the actual remake is still very good.

I have bought various games due to demos, two though come to mind:

- Rollercoaster Tycoon: probably the demo that I played the most. I never got tired of it and played extensively until the game was out

- Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsen's Odyssey: I didn't play it that much, it was pretty limited (as RCT, but this one is not a sim), but was awesome enough too!

with Steam and downloadable games I don't get them anymore, I have limited bandwidth and recent demos have been extremely disappointing. the last one I played was FEAR 2 and it was absurdly short. on the other hand, HAWX demo was surprisingly good, but didn't make me buy the game. there are a lot of other stuff that will affect my decision, mostly "replay value".

I used to buy a lot of mags with CDs full of demos, more than hundreds. most of them wouldn't even be released here, or were shareware. there was this cool Bomberman clone called Fracas, featuring mages. you could play locally with 8 people, all you needed was 6 keys (4 movement,  normal attack and special attack IIRC) so it was easy to setup for 3 people on the same keyboard, plus a joystick. great fun!

right now I'm looking at one of these CDs, the demos include: Virtual Snooker, Quake, Descent 2, Micro Machines 2, Fatal Racing, Doom, Indycar Racing 2, Big Red Racing, Battle Arena Toshiden, Heretic, Duke Nuken (sic) 3D,  Extreme Pinball, Warcraft 2, The Dig. good times :P

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

There has never been a game I planned on getting, and didn't because of a demo. There have been many I have gotten because of the demo. UFC (worlds better then I thought it might be), Halo Wars,Banjo,KZ. I am sure there are another handful as well

I had played the Rise if Nations demo a couple of times over the course of more than a year. And then finally had to buy the full game. Though I was still pretty young.

there have been a couple of demos that really made me want the game.. like civilization revolution.. played the demo then it ended and wanted more badly.. lol
