I'll have to agree with you on this one. Though Tales of Vesperia was AWESOME it still doesn't make up for the mess that was Tales of Symphonia. GOD i hate Colette.

Well, yes, if you've found EVERY FF better then EVERY Tales, then Vesperia won't make you think that Tales games are better then FF games. However, I can almost assure you that after playing it you'd see how many of us can find Vesperia being better then all recent FF games.

I have my doubts.

I'm sure you'll think ToV is a great game but judging by how much you love FF12 i don't think you'll love it better then it. Whats you least favorite FF game anyways?

Out of the games I've played... either VII or VIII.

Well in my opinion ToV is better then both games. I thought FF7 was great but thought FF8 was too much of a chore. ToV to me beat both games in almost every aspect. Better characters (Yuri Lowell>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cloud and Squall though i liked Cloud), better combat system (FF7 battle system was cool while FF8's was not so cool), Better storyline (though Part 3 of ToV was not as good as Part 1 and 2 but it was still cool and i liked FF7's storyline). The only thing about FF7 and FF8 i would put above ToV is music. Make sure to get the PS3 version of ToV if it comes to the states.

Really, the characters? Yuri was cool, everyone else was terrible. I especially hated estelle and karol. Terrible, terrible. Also, while i liked TotA's story somewhat, and thought ToS was decent story-wise, I thought Vesperia was terrible. It was nothing new AND executed badly, as opposed to nothing new and executed sometimes quite well (FF).

Tales is a is basically the same themes( racism, Man who wants to save the world by doing something bad to it, meaning of life, I want to be God) and the same cookie cutter characters( Flirt, comedian, the brains, innocent girl who does nothing evil, coolguy/badass ext) over and over and over again. Though FF has fallen from grace it still manages to deeper on all levels than Tales will ever be.

Though Tales does somewhat follow that formula the same can be said about pretty much all JRPGs.

your right...all games reuse the same stories over and over again, but its how you tell that story that makes the difference and Tales is told in the most cliché way possible

@ Xxain

I think that's a little harsh. Tales stories usually are generic and tend to borrow much from FF. But their stories are not that bad.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Tales can never be "emotional" capturing like FF...TOA felt like a Toonami Anime cartoon

I think it's time you joined the RoF hype train with me and Xxain

Hmm... for a series as a whole, I'm going to have to go with the Tales of series. They're more consistantly good, though admittingly, they don't have the awe-inspiring that a few of the Final Fantasys have. But the FFs from 7 (inclusive) onward are just a lot of fluff with pretty pictures.

However, yes, if you're willing to step away from just those 2, I will highly recommend the Shin Megami Tensei series (with Persona), as well as Suikoden.

Which is the better JRPG series? Which one brings the bests story, characters and combat system? Though i'm not a fan of neither series imma go with the FF series. Final Fantasy X FTW though i love Tales of Vesperia and Tales of the Abyss.

double negative makes a postive.  So does this mean you are a fan of both series? :)
