Forums - Gaming - Should I buy PSP Slim or used PSP PHAT?

I asked a while ago about Wii games vs. Xbox 360, I took the easy way out, bought some VC games, and got the rest for my B-DAY. Now I really want a PSP. I have always planned on getting one- I don't have an iPod, and I figured the PSP would trounce DS and I would end up getting a PSP by 2007...

Well, even though DS is doing better, ironically there are more games on PSP than DS that interest me (over #)

My Friends is offering to sell me his PSP PHAT for $110, it is in like new condition, barely played, comes with (I think) 56 mb memor stick, and 3 games, wipeout pure and 2 others.

There are about 25 PSP games I want, and I also want to use it as a music player. I also want to hack it and play PS1 games on it. However, I want to hold off unitl midlate 08 for the hacking; by then 16gb memory stick dou's should be $100-220 on EBAY. So until 2008 I just want to play legit games, but still want to play music.

Should I get the Old PSP now, and play games and get my firmware updated and stuff? How many game saves/songs can be held on 56mb? :(

OR should I get the Slim? I am planning on buying daxter, I like family guy, and I think 1gb would be enough for game saves/music, and then the 16gb should be good for emulation/movies later. However, I Strongly Dislike how the Silver PSP looks, and I love how the black looks. (I have a black DS too :D) I would be able to live with Silver PSP, the same way I would be able to live with the "pimpin pink" DS lite.

How much do 1GB memory sticks cost? And which PSP do you guys think I should buy? The used is a great value, espcailly if 1GB ccosts $30 or less... However I am planning on buying future PSP games (faster laoding on SLIM) and I mostly play games at home, so the PSP to TV thing would be fun (but does that cost extra?)

SLIM or PHAT?

Thanks!

How about you google the prices and make up your own mind ?

Well, based on my insane loathing of loading times, I'd vote go slim.

Other than that, the difference between them is slim is a bit brighter and seems more fragile. If you can however, tolerate very long loading times (Comparitively) then go for the old version, seeing as buying it + 3 games (presumably ones you want) for 110 will be cheaper than the 240 it would cost for an equivalent light.

See Ya George.

"He did not die - He passed Away"

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

The memory stick is less tan 30, which was my guess...
what prices? that was the only price I metoined.
Price wise overall the PSP PHAT is obviously the better value.
I will rephrase:

Considering my above plan, is the extra cost of the PSP Slim (getting it 2 months later and $90 more and having silver color) worth it? (PSP to TV, faster loading times, Slimmer, bundled)

I got a DS lite becuase I mageed to break the DS PHAT. luckily I am very careful nowwith DS Lite ;)

the PSP is very fragile? I'll have to buy a carrying case then :(

edit- I want wipeout pure, the other two I don't care about, I will probably get 30-120 minutes of play time outa them

the lowest the mem stick could be is 32 MB andrew... that's the smallest one for psp, and if you managed to break a DS Phat :O , which is near impossible, you should really be careful with a psp cos they r fragile...

that should be one of your lifetime achievements... you managed to break a DS PHAT =P

You would think they are industructible lol. All I did was drop my backpack *with 5 textbooks in it) on the DS.MY GBA SP: I dopped down the stairs, dropped off the top bunk bed, dropped on a plane, dropped it in the sand at the beach, sat on (it was UNDER the chair leg somehow. My GBA- dropped in a bathtub full of water, it was fine and I didnt get shocked OOGB- dropped it in a sandbox, dropped it into a randomly opened jar of vaseline sitting in the kitchen for wahtever reasonGB pocket- Accidently stepped on it with my shoe, accidently kicked it (i think twice, cant rember) ...The only thing that broke was the DS. what gives? BTW my DS lite is in like newcondtion, now that I know that Nintendo products are fragile ;)  I think it is a 32mb stick. (PSP) Should I buy his PSP (comes with 3 games) and a 1GB memory card and a carrying case (110 plus 15 plus 30= 155) Or a PSP slim and a carrying case? And do PSP carrying cases at stores typically come with screen protectors? I rember My GBA screen is so scratched you can only see the games if you play in pitch black darkness >.>Also... is the PSP slim brighter, like the DS lite? Someone on this site said it was in the 'underwheld' PSP thread, but I thought it was the same brightness. THanks for helping me out :D

Get the Slim one; much better IMO.

Wow... you really don't take care of your consoles do you?

You can get homebrew on the slim, such as emulators

However, it does have some compatability issues, but this should be cleared up with time. The biggest advantage is that the slim has more RAM, giving custom apps greater potential.
