The Steve you have prototype?

He is talking about Infamous.

It seems to me word of mouth is very positive...

How would you know you havn't even seen the sales for it yet ..

by seems positive he means people are praising the game...

Sell a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish you just ruined a perfect business opportunity.

So seeing sales equals hearing people talk about a game now...

Pretty much yeah .... you hear people talking about every single game, if it was really getting good word of mouth (and to justify using that term) it will do big numbers.

Yawn... Uncharted didn't recieve big numbers but word of mouth made it sell to 2.6 million

Gears, LBP, and so many others. So unless you are telling me to wait a year and a half to see sales then I dont see your point.

When does infamous release in Japan anyways?

Hmm, ioi said over 150k and under 200k.

Now I just can't grasp why titles like this (or others) do this badly... okay, other titles have received abysmal marketing so that's something that can be pointed towards for the failure... but this game apparently got decent marketing so should do relatively well.

Yet, it won't even reach 200k. It's weird how Nintendo and MS can (i'm just exaggerating here) just fart in a glass and sell 4 million copies of it pretty much instantly :-/ Okay, install base and marketing but if this game has had decent marketing.... then why?

Depends on who you talk to...  Plenty of folks have downplayed it as "Web of Shadows, starring Shawn of the Dead" or "that Force Unleashed GTA game..."  It's gotten an average of about an 8 from "amatuer" reviewers because of its flaws.  The game just isn't that big of a deal, to the point that there are plenty of people that find it boring, and plenty that in to it, but it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Not bashing the game, but talking to dozens of folks in person and online I'd not entirely intentionally tlked them out of getting the game, simply because it's so underwhelming.  It's just another super-hero game, slightly better than some of the movie tie-in ones, not as good as some of the better ones.

Believing in the PLAYSTATION®3......IS.......S_A_C_R_I_L_E_G_E

8's are average score reviews now?

So if it's more than 150K and less than 200K then my prediction was spot on. So, inFamous is doing according to my expectations

Because it's easier to make sequels than new IP's. I think that explains Infamous's sales to a decent extent as compared to Gears 2, Halo 3, etc. Like Uncharted, some manage to get word of mouth due to their excellence. And as for you saying that MS can just do anything and sell, I think that "Madworld" commercial was very effective in getting peoples attention lol.
