Forums - General - Might piracy be the fault of a failing business model ?

As we all know piracy is absolutley crippling the music industry and the movie industry is also damaged by piracy. In the gaming industry the affect of piracy varies with the PC,PSP experiencing larger percentages of piracy among the userbase with the XBOX 360 and PS3 experiencing piracy to very small extent ( well not at all on the PS3).

What i'm trying to get at is , is the increase in piracy the fault of the entertainment industries ? People will spend their money on something , if it's not games then it'll be clothes , MP3 players , the bowling etc , the money will go on one luxury or another . We're seeing an increase in F2P games , ad supported gaming and subscription based gaming , surely this is a payment system that the big businesses should be adopting ? .

what are your thoughts ?

Maybe the issue is the fact that the reproduction costs are nowhere near the cost of the media and piracy is just people acting in their best interests and breaking the monopoly content creaters have on the content?

Tease.

Lets see... they're trying to sell a non tangible completly copiable product like a tangible, non copiable product.

Yeah. I'd say that's a bad buisness model.

Really a lot of games should use advertising based revenue... be paid for upfront.

The billboards in racing games and ragdoll kung fu being free for a week are good examples.

I mean we have loading screens. Why not put an add in there rather then a character?

I think businesses are putting too much money in production values and not enough money in customer satisfaction.

"Customer is king" That my friends is the superior business model.
