Sony has denied that it’s planning to unveil a slim PS3 at next month’s E3 event.

"We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3," the company told Edge’s sister site CVG yesterday, following internet rumours to the contrary.

Shortly afterwards 1UP posted a series of photos that surfaced on a Chinese gaming site purporting to be leaked factory images of a redesigned PS3.

When contacted by Edge today a Sony UK rep said: “We don't know anything about the system in the photos, and we don't comment on rumour or speculation.”

Sony recently said it does not comment on rumour or speculation regarding the rumour that it’s preparing to reveal a new model PSP, dubbed PSP Go!, at next month’s E3.

I guess we'll only know until E3. I hope that Sony will have an awesome presentation with some huge secret announcements.

Obviously, announceing this and a price cut would cripple PS3s sales for a month, so they will keep the PS3 slim on the down low. But its there.

That doesn´t mean they won´t reveal the slim PS3...they´ve done this before.

They are obviously going to say this, as a redesigned PS3 would likely incorporate the Price-Cut and also if this was leaked early then they would not have the same ammunition to use at E3 (being if they confirmed it was true)...

All companies are bad for 'not commenting on rumours or speculation' but tend to let things known later on when they wish to...

Yeah, Sony never comment on rumour and speculation but the rumour and speculation usually turns out to be true. Word of the slim model is obviously something they don't want leaked early.

As with every company, you never talk about newer, better products until the right time..

They need to sell the PS3's on the shelves Now...

If they say: "We have a Newer System coming out" to soon, those Older model PS3's on the shelves might just sit there because people want the newer version and will wait to buy it..

What else are they going to say?

"No, you got us, stop buying the PS3's out there and wait for this one"

I think a PS3 slim is coming this year.
