The recent party line vote by both parties not to investigate Pelosi's claim is baffling to me on the Dem side.
Ok so the situation with Pelosi and now Specter (among others) accussing the CIA of lying, being dishonest, and/or misleading members of congress is the issue of course. Specifically I don't understand why dems voted not to look into the claim.
We are left with one of two conclusions:
- The CIA is in fact lying to congress and Democrats don’t care that they are corrupt.
- Pelosi, Specter, and Co. are lying/wrong and Democrats don’t care about the CIA being unjustly attacked by the Speaker of the House and members of the Senate.
No matter what the reality is it is a very serious issue and one that I don't think can be ignored. How do you trust the CIA and/or Pelosi with this issue unresolved? They can't both be telling the truth and they are both currently involved in some extremely sensitive intelligence briefings. I don't think Pelosi needs to resign over it based on what we know now, but surely this needs to be looked into, no?
I sure as hell want to make sure the CIA isn't lying to congress. And I sure as hell don't want the SotH throwing the CIA under the buss for political expediency.
I think the issue can definitely be a distraction to larger issues and frankly more important issues but its the type of thing you can't ignore and at least need to throw on a back burner at the bare minimum.
Do you know how stupid they are going to look if the CIA lies to them down the road now that they have blocked this? For that reason alone I'm surprised they didn't deal with the issue...of course they may know more than me and it might be the case that Pelosi was lying...in which case they've also opened themselves to embarassment if something else comes out to revive the issue and paint her as having lied. Politically they've just handed the republicans an unopened can of political whoopass no matter who is telling the truth and who is lying. The republicans now just have to wait for the other shoe to drop...so as the title says...I'm really confused on this decision.
