Forums - Website Topics - Can we ban confessed pirates and modders?

And stopping people talking about modding consoles and playing backup games here will do what exactly? they will just go to other sites to do it and i'm very sure this isn't a site they would want to use to discuss it anyway as there are proper sites for that lol

And yes, I have a modded 360, PSP, Wii, PS2, xbox etc, I also buy retail games, pay for xbox live, arcade/psn games, DLC and so on, I think most people mod PSP's as they do a lot more and will allow you to play homebrew games etc,

And for your information it is totally LEGAL to mod/chip consoles/handhelds in the UK, US and many other places, also playing backups of games you own is also totally legal, I mod 360's and wii's for people, not illegal in the slightest, it's the downloading games and playing them which is illegal and no one condones that, do they?

And if we're going to ban people for modding, shouldn't we ban people for even having or admiting to having P2P programs? I mean neither or illegal, but it's very easy to use them for illegal purposes. Nobody mention that you have limewire, that's bannable because you're probably doing illegal things with it.

These suggestions just aren't practical or frankly, ethical.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Some people don't see piracy as wrong, though. I hate to use the comparison, but it would be like banning people people for being gay. It's just a different point of view.

There are gray areas to people such as being gay.  That is not a clear right or wrong to everyone and people can argue either side until the cows come home.

With piracy, it's flat out stealing, and this isn't the type of stealing that you can use the old would you steal bread to feed your family argument because while food is a necessity, gaming isn't.  Piracy is stealing and that's really all there is to it.  It doesn't matter if you (general you, not you cdude) think it's right or not wrong, it just is.

Is it alright for me to rape someone because I think it's not wrong?

Also, I'm not going to get until into the piracy is not stealing argument if you don't intend to buy, this isn't the thread for that argument.

Ehhhh, I've heard debates about piracy and justifying it. Some people say companies such as Adobe over charge their products. Specifically for music, that the price of CD albums (despite CDs becoming dirt cheap) are still the same from a decade ago.

There's plenty of people who would advocate piracy.

Well, if you're backing up something with DRM on it's unfortunately illegal AFAIK. The DMCA added this law that says you can't surcomvent DRM.

It should be legal though.

Yeah, good points you make,

So although P2P programs and torrent sites are totally legal to use it's actually what you do with them...

Actually piracy is copyright infringement not stealling those are two seperate laws.

Yeah, to say P2P programs and sites are illegal means, then we should ban direct downloading as well.

Can I also request that we ban everyone who has recently commited a crime violating US/UK criminal law /sarcasm.

If Vgchartz is going to start banning self confessed modders / piraters then I will leave Vgchartz out of priciniple , it's none of the moderaters concern. If people are activley discussing or promoting copyrighted content then it's only reasonable that the moderators deal with this kind of conduct.

But if a person isn't doing anything more than saying they are a pirate/modder.

1.How do you know for certain it's true?.
2.It's probable there are those who commit worse copyright offenses don't admit it.
3.What gives you the moral authority to ban a certain type of character ?.

Ok, ban illegal conduct but what your doing is banning some one for having questionable character , that's abusrd.

Even then, would you ban everyone who has admitted to doing something illegal? I have a Jaguar emulator and roms? Is that cause for ban? What if I stole a players guide from the gamestop at the mall? Is that bannable? Or if I admitted I wasn't going to buy a game because I was going to play my brothers copy when he was done? Is that stealing? I'm getting the game for free, the developer gets nothing.

Trying to make hard fast rules over even remotely grey areas is a bad idea. When you have so many mods with differing feelings on the topic, you know it's going to end bad.

The rule is and should be, if you link to pirating sites that is bannable. Trying to prevent people from talking about things that are harmful to the developer is a giant mine field waiting to destroy the site's community.

So, like 90-95% of VGC members, NEVER used R4 card for DS or custom firmware for PSP? Wow, impressive. =)

Anyway, copyright thing is overrated and games are overpriced.

Also, what to do, if in some countries a video GAME cost like 1/5 of average monthly salary, and there is no rental, stop gaming?
Oh, leave country, because of gaming, cool. =))
