Forums - Website Topics - Can we ban confessed pirates and modders?

I'm not a fan of piracy.

I think posting links to torrents and discussing the mechanics of piracy should be a ban-able offense as its really against the spirit of the site. Remembering that this site is about tracking the legal sale of video games. Not to mention whatever legal ramifications posting links to torrents etc could have for the private owners of this site.

However discussing how piracy effects the industry and the ethics of piracy should be allowed.

I don't think this site should tighten the noose in regards to piracy, the existing rules seem fine enough.

This is so stupid, it's not 1995 anymore, EVERYBODY pirates.

Who hasn't pirated 13 gigs of music, 455 gigs of movies, 118 gigs of games, and 300 gigs of porn?

Err...I mean...

Hey, don't put me in that bag! I haven't downloaded 300 gigs of porn! And I don't download movies, it's too much of a hassle anyways, much easier to rent them

LOL. I'm a modder and a pirate, ban me. WTF. I'm sure you pirate and mod stuff too. Stop acting like you're clean.

the game makers hve made money from the used game the first time now I have no problem what them receiving royalties from resale from stores.

piracy gives nothing to the dev's hence is thieft plain and simple.

Copyright law is not the same as Property law and it has nothing to do with sales.

Theft only applies to property law. Theft is when physical property is taken from your possession without your permission.

@liquidninja

you can steel intellectual property so to it can be owned hence theft can still apply.

@mjdans

"intellectual property" is a propaganda term.

It's just a term invented to make people look at copyrights, patents and trademarks as being like property law. So they can say people are stealing it.

Property law only applies to physical objects. So again no you can't steal it.

I'm going to have to bow to your point as from a legal point you are probably right though this may very from country to country.

For PS2 and sometimes psp I still buy Japanese copy and pirate an undub to play (that is for JRPGs but they are also the huge majority). I'd flash my 360 in an instant if there were undubs of the English-only JRPGs.
Then there are the games I download and try and don't play for more than an hour because they are crap and given that time to evaluate the product I wouldn't have bought the game anyway.

Movies I prefer to see on the big screen, but I pirate a whole lot of anime and jdramas and why wouldn't I. I don't want to buy (read: usually import) that on a dvd, I'd watch it on telly if it were there, which it isn't in this part of the world.
I have pirated only a small number of music cds, the reason being that I bought most of my cds before I started downloading stuff. That being said, they are all ripped and I haven't touched the cds in years, it's a lot more convenient. It's just not worth selling them on Ebay because I wouldn't get a good price for them. There is the option to buy as mp3s nowadays but why would I bother when if I wanted to pirate a cd I could download it in .flac and make a mp3 of that if needed? I couldn't care less for that particular industry, artists get more monetary support from a concert ticket than from their whole discography legally bought.

And yeah, some years ago I'd strictly pirate a lot of JRPGs, imports were hard to get especially without a credit card. I'm still in the process of filling in some of the possession gaps with Japanese originals, and of course those are second hand, the majority of this stuff is already out of print.

@alekth

Not sure what your point is are you bragging or thumbing your nose at everyone because you think you can or just that you are trying to be honest.
