I'm glad you understand that copyright's are supposed to benefit us and not the creators.

Now understand that monopoly's mean that you have little to no competition.

Copyrights directly benefit authors/creators.  Copyrights protect competition.  Competition benefits the consumer.  Thus copyrights indirectly benefit the consumers.

Yes monopolies are bad which is why copyrights exist.  What is your point with that.  Nowhere did I say anything about monopolies being good.  You really are confused.

Copyrights are government granted Monopoly's.

I once torrented RE4 for PC after already owning it on GameCube. C'mon ban me.

I'm really hoping you guys are all joking about asking to be banned. Especially considering starcraft doesn't seem to have any control and twesterm has already said he can't really ban you guys for this stuff.

axum, wether I and the others that posted want to be banned is irrelevant, since, for now it's not against the rules, so there's no grounds for ban. I was just proving how ridiculous the premise is. And I know for sure that a forum where saying "I pirated a game" is against the rules is not a forum where I would wanna take part, so if that rule were to be instated I'd leave the place entirely

I'm not the one that seems to think you guys should get banned. x.o

I know you don't, I just wanted to state my position clear

In another since.  A monopoly to sell a product they created.  Monopoly doesn't always mean one person in one market.

So if you feel that way why do you deem it important to put that quote which protects copyrights.  That quote from the supreme court was their to protect the use of copyright which technically is government intervention in a free market.  The support the "monopoly" over a product such that a larger corporation can't steal or sell that product at uncompetitive prices.  A key ideology of capitalism has always been copyrights, because of the need to maintain competition.  Without copyrights, then small businesses, and nowadays larger businesses, wouldn't have a chance.

Don't take things so literally.  They don't put all those words in that sentence for all of them to mean something so literal.  When ya combine them you can get the whole idea.

But people stopping confessing would be a GOOD thing. Ultimately, the website is being used as a forum to promote piracy. Anyone acknowledging doing it and gaining advantage by it advocates it.

If people stopped admitting it because of a ban rule, the ban rule would have been successful.

I would absolutely love to ban all pirates and modders, but sadly can't.  ;_;

That said, people can confess that they pirate but the moment they even hint at how to do it they are warned/banned (straight out banned the vast majority of the time) so believe me, this isn't a pirating site.

Also, I do believe modders are just as bad.  As I was telling someone yesterday about the R4, it may have uses other than piracy, but that's still it's primary use.

Wait, so now we can't even mention R4/M3, emulators, or the Wii Homebrew Channel!?

Twesterm, you have a TON threads to lock and users to ban.

For each new copy right law the trad-off is more and more in favor of monopolists and less in the favor of us. So new Copyright laws aren't necessarily just.

So after all who decides what is good and what is bad? You already editet the OP to include that modding for imports are okay. Why do we have region locks you think? Why are they against importing? I mean where to draw the line? Is your pirating definition to download and sell it? Or are you really such an angel that NEVER EVER have downloaded something you're intended to pay for? Piracy is not good by any means and i can't defend it but I do it too. Just for me. I'm not giving it to my friend, I'm not even showing it to them and I'm not selling it either. I live far under poverty line with what i have per month and I'm happy if I can get 4 Games for my consoles per year (alltough they are all presents or 2nd hand, look at my Game collection. Looks much but I haven't paid more than 10-20 for each, until that price I had to wait or get lucky on my birthday...) and hell yes sometimes I want to play a game on my old PC... And yea, luckily it's old so I can only pirate old Games. So the question for me is to try out a game (And buy it sometime cheap if it's really worth it and I can find it on Ebay) or go play the same games over and over again what bores me. But anyway I don't support piracy to anyone I know and hell yes I feel guilty... And hell yes I feel bad because my book, my intelectual work can be found for free as E-Book and I don't get a goddamn Penny for it. But for real... there are people who don't want to pay for stuff, who can't pay for stuff and who wants to get paid for stuff. And there will always be. Before I had Internet there were guys at school selling cdroms of games for 10, selling music cds for 5 and big pc compilations with 50+ games for 50... Today I would never support anything like this but back in the day I sure did... I wanted to know what everyone was talking about... My most played PC Game is still AvP2 that I bought 2 times after my first copy broke. Since then I barely bought a game since money was always tight and nothing seemed worth it. And I downloaded about 1 Game a month. So where to draw the line? NOONE really knows how big the impact on the industry is... They claim every pirated thing as sell and that is just not true. But they miss the opposite... There ARE things that sell better through piracy... Because people can judge for themselves. Money is short and it always was and games are still some luxury. And there will always be people who "steal". They're not good nor heroes but they are people and you don't know their reasons. Do you know they really can play Crisis on their PC and haven't just downloaded it to test if it works and then erased i because it didn't? And don't come with the argument with demos because they're almost euqal as big and so I understand why not check the final product... Well i didn't because I know my PC can't handle it and I'm not that big FPS Fan, just happy that Enemy territory is running and 4 free ^^ Spreading piracy = ban but saying: I pirated games for whatever reason a ban? Making people be afraid to say the truth? Wanna prison some Jews? It's a sad day for real. But come on, hate me for what I have done... ban me if you can and want... I have to live with it. But don't put everyone under the same knife. And after all you shouldn't have blank CDs and DVDs because you CAN do bad stuff with it...

@The_vagabond7

You make a strong point for royalties on resale of art works this would be a good thing if it became law but very hard to police.

I do think that the makers of games should be looked on as artists.

Unlike most art there Value rarely increases.

I do agree that all things legal are not necessarily just or good but only a frame work.

Yes resellers of used games can pay nexd to nothing.

This also apply's to cars houses boats tv's frig's trucks land food clothes watchs need I go on
if GM Ford or Chrysler chould stop used cars being sold tomorrow they would.

When a person buy's something they alway's should be able to sell it.

Now I know that is not what you ment but all industries have to live with used products on the market.

Morality therefore is the ability to resell something you own.

That is how society works in general and in practice.

@.jayderyu

the game makers hve made money from the used game the first time now I have no problem what them receiving royalties from resale from stores.

piracy gives nothing to the dev's hence is thieft plain and simple.
