Actually in regard to the ops post about Call of Duty 2 and his comment that hundreds of better games have been released on 360 since then which would really be impressive, I just did a check on Game Rankings and found out that only 20 games better than Call of Duty 2 have been released on 360 between Call of Duty 2's release in 2005 and the present day.
Also Call of Duty 2's Game Rankings score is 89.84. That means that since that time almost four years ago the 360 has only managed to have 20 games with a Game Rankings score greater than 89.84.
Now if we look at PS2 and its first four years, we see that according to Game Rankings between its release in 2000 and the end of 2004, the PS2 had 42 games with Game Rankings scores of 90 or above.
The conclusion that can be reached from this data is that if the 360 is the standard bearer for this generation so far then it is a rather poor one especially in comparison to the last gen.
Now if we look at the other two current gen consoles, we see that the PS3 released a year later than the 360 already has 13 90 and above games (with many more high quality exclusives on the way from highly talented Japanese designers while it will continue to get the same Western games as does the 360) and thus far the Wii has so far managed to get 10 games with 90 or above scores at Game Rankings, however, quite a few of these games currently have only one review, so it can be expected in a few weeks that the Wii will actually have a lower number once again and for the rest of this gen it will probably continue to miss out on the best versions of games from Western third parties unlike PS3 and 360.
So, once again the conclusion reached is that if the 360 is this gen's standard bearer it is a rather poor one compared to last gen's standard bearer, but in all likelihood by the end of the gen, the PS3 will wind up being this gen's standard bearer.

Your PS2 comparison is Irrelevant...
Your Conclusion is based on Reviews which are the opinions of others...While holding some creditability..The volume of games is irrelevant....
That whole thing on the PS3 and it 13 90+ games makes no sense....Also you have yet to point out how many 90+ games the 360 has but pointed that it has only managed to have 20 games over 89.94....Contradictory much?
About your last comment..It would have been more conclusive to say that the PS3 has been a poor Sucsessor to PS2 than saying that the 360 compared to the PS2 is a poor standard bearer

My PS2 comparison isn't irrelevant. The question posed in the op is is the 360 this generation's standard bearer. Now, I believe that a standard bearer is the system that has demonstrated far and away that it has the highest standard of games in its gen.
I don't feel that with a distribution of 20 90+ games for the 360, 13 90 + games for the PS3, and 10 90+ games for the Wii that the 360 can be said to be demonstrating that it has far and away the best games of any console this gen thus making itself the standard bearer. However, if the difference in 90+ games between the 360 and PS3 does make the 360 the standard bearer, then it is certainly not dominating its gen the way the PS2 did which was last gen's standard bearer. And so far as far as the number of great games go, this gen as a whole isn't matching up very well to the sheer number of great games released in the last gen.
The 360 has 20 90+ games. Those 20 games are the only ones on the console with higher Game Rankings scores than Call of Duty 2.
In regards to my last comment read my second paragraph here again.
