Retro is before 3-D. I can't consider Mario 64 retro, because games like it are still being made.

Oldschool is either old games or new games in the oldschool style, like the new Punch-Out!! or Viewtiful Joe.

Do you mean "before the use of shaded polygons"?  I would consider Zaxxon and Battlezone to fit into retro/classic/old(school).

Yeah that's what I meant.  Earlier styles of 3-D are definitely retro, like the 3-D games on Game Boy and even earlier.

Actually, maybe a more accurate term would be "characters that are sprite based or earlier (Pong, Breakout, etc....)".  With the advent of the Playstation, there was a shift away from sprites, to polygons.

Retro and old school have little to do with classic imo. Retro and old school is just a style. Classic is the quality of the game.

Anyways, I think a game is retro if it's a new game that looks like an old game or plays like an old game.

Jet Set Radio is a modern retro game.

Not just because of the graphics. But also the quirky music...the character design. The arcade-ish gameplay.

Crazy Taxi is another old school game. Even though it's 3D, the gameplay is very old school.

Basically, arcade style games are old school to me.

For me:

Classic - An old game that is of very high quality.

Retro/Old School - An old game, or a new game that plays like the old games.
