You have some ska/punk on there.
Have you heard of Streetlight Manifesto?

If not, they're the best, by a considerable margin, in the genre. I'd highly recommend 'em.

EDIT: Ahh, you have Catch 22. Same singer-songwriter that did Keasbey Nights heads SM.

dude....Catch-22 are one of my favorite ska bands. I had the privilage of seeing them at Warped Tour a few years ago. Best act there as far as I was concerned...Well, them and nofx were pretty awesome.

I was wondering why when I put Keasy Nights on my computer why it was originally listed as Streetlight Manifesto.

Unfortunately, Tomas Kalnoky (The guy responsible for Keasbey and SM) left Catch 22 in 1998, so you didn't see him nor the original line-up.

Streetlight is insanely talented though, definitely look into them. They have two original albums - Everything Goes Numb and Somewhere in the Between - as well as their own re-working of Keasbey Nights.

Also, interestingly enough, Streetlight will be at this years Warped Tour.
Here's a live video to help convince you : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YUtZ5y13o4

oh. I've often wanted to check them out but I didn't know anybody that could vouch. So not much convincing needed to be done about them.

Well that's good.
Usually people hear "ska" and run away .

For pop electronica I recommend Röyksopp and Goldfrapp. Here are a couple of great tracks:

Röyksopp:

The girl and the robot

What else is there

Goldfrapp:

Happiness

Ride a white horse

I'll throw in a The Knife and a The Golden Filter track as well:

Pass this on

Solid Gold

It all really depends on what kind of ska it is. I really don't like Less Than Jake all that much. I used to but they just get on my nerves now. I can't hate Reel Big Fish or Goldfinger though...Reel Big Fish was my first concert and Mabel by Goldfinger was the first Ska song I ever heard (not counting no doubt of course).

I agree. A lot of the "third-wave" stuff is just downright annoying to me these days, but there are several "diamonds in the rough", so to speak.

I just hate the stigma the overall genre gets, which prevents some from listening to bands, like Streetlight, despite the fact that they are some of the more original and talented musicians around today.

Seriously if you like ska, you should check 'em out.

The only ska bands I really listen to are Catch-22, Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, The Aquabats (because they are so odd that I don't know if that even counts as ska), and I guess early 90's Rancid if you count them as ska (so much Ska Punk in the world x.o). There's another band that has a more artistic feel to their music that I like but I can't remember who it was right now...

I really only listen to Streetlight and The Arrogant Sons of Bitches (No longer together) these days when it comes to ska. I'll listen to Mighty Mighty Bosstones and a few others on occasion though.

To change directions and recommend something else, look up Saul Williams, and especially the album 'Amethyst Rock Star'. He's an absolutely fantastic hip-hop artist, and a great lyricist. He even has a project with Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) that's worth a listen as well.

EDIT: Thanks for the recommendation Beoulve, that's a fun song .

lol. that is one of the really fun ska songs. It reminds me of something I played on DDR a long time ago althought I doubt that was it. x.o Actually...it might have been Stepmania actually...but either way.I might check that out when I get another card. I'm trying to keep it as diverse as possible.

I really liked the Röyksopp songs you put up on here. I'm going to get a few of their songs. :) I also enjoyed the second Goldfrapp song....but I still haven't listened to the rest though.

Glad you liked them ^^ They are some of my favorite songs :D Goldfrapp's third album "Supernature" is a fantastic electro dance record, and there are other tracks that are just as good or even better than Ride a white horse.

Goldfrapp - Ooh La la

hmm..I'll have to check him out, what kind of hiphop is it? is there anyone you can compare him to?

Hmm, I don't know if a comparison would be fair, and no one comes to mind.
Here's one of the songs off the Amethyst album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI75Tmnh3VA

"@Beoulve, I know that song! I think that was from one of the attempts to make Goldfrapp break big in the U.S. Very catchy song. I knew I made a good decision asking the king of the "what song are you listening to?" thread about this"

lol :P That is one of the few songs that got a lot of airplay in Norway as well. I saw Goldfrapp live last summer, man it's one of the best concert experiences of my life.

I'm throwing in some indie hits:

Arcade Fire - Intervention

Belle and Sebastian - Sukie in the graveyard

Blonde Redhead - 23

Not really indie, but a great rock track:

Carpark North - Human

It's pretty good. I'll probably look into more of his lyrics before I actually get interested in his music. With rap music, I always make sure I can either relate to it or it tells a good story....or if it's got a good beat to it. I'll look into his lyrics a little later today.

Sounds good. I'm not usually a big hip-hop fan but some of his passages just floor me.
The song 'Wine' is a good place to start.
