Yeah, it's really starting to piss me off. I'm querying them directly through the standard media channels and they're dancing around the issue like ballerinas.

They keep saying they haven't announced anything yet [no shit or I wouldn't be calling you guys about it] but won't confirm yes or no to the game.

My guess is they haven't decided, haven't really started work on it, but can still port it to the Wii before the release. I wouldn't be surprised if they are doing market research and stuff to make a very businessy cost/benefit analysis of the port.

Too late for any of that.  I'm also 100% certain that some development has taken place.

Making a Wii game out of an HD game isn't very difficult.  The main task is saving the game models in early detail states for Wii use.  You build a game model with low texture data and continue to add detail.  To make the Wii game along side it you simply save the data at a pre-determined point for Wii and then continue adding detail for the HD SKU's.

I've spoken with a guy that worked at IW and he had or had seen others with Wii saved models.   It's a pointless task to do if a Wii SKU is not in the planning.

My only guess is after IW finished the models that whomever they handed off programming too (likely Tryarch) that they are either way behind, underfunded/understaffed or some other major hold up that is preventing any official announcements regarding the Wii SKU.   Perhaps the problems have become so severe the Wii SKU is canceled but even if that were the case they could at least state as much.

Sounds reasonable. Either way, I imagine after pretty decent sales of WaW Wii, that any threat to the Wii version's existance is more about the opporitunity cost (ie, moving HD devs to scale it down), rather than turning a profit on the port itself.

This is the biggest problem with publishers and devs regarding the Wii.  Instead of pissing time and money away on "eveluating the market" why don't they just make a great game.

Yeah I got a feeling that they are developing it and are on hold to officially announce or denounce the Wii Sku. Could be that they are doing some development fact finding. Testing to see what they can do on the Wii and assess if it would be profitable or prudent.

If what you are saying is true Viper, then it seems as though they are developing the SKU. It could be cancelled later on. Or maybe their strategy is to announce it closer to launch and generate buzz. OR they are putting as many features as possible before they announce what it is they are releasing.

Or its cancelled.

But I will keep dreaming......

I also see the bright side of what you're saying Viper, I mean why would Activision decide to jump around the question rather than just denouncing it. When a publisher does that, it clearly means that they know something is in development.

I mean it's so simple for the game to turn a profit, since the game has made a name for itself with World at War, I can see this selling even better and being better.

I don't know if he comes on anymore but Bardicverse, how exactly does an HD port work on the Wii and how good can you actually make it look, and how much content actually is sacrificed?

Currently enjoying: Monster Hunter Tri.

I'm sure Bard will give a more detailed answer to your question but to sum up all SKU's utilize the same game engine (a twice updated, at least, form of the Modern Warfare engine) and Wii modeling is just a truncated final model for the HD SKU's, it should work and look quite well.

On top of that, if Treyarch are handling the Wii SKU then we already know what they are capable of and with that experience under their belt I'm certain they can do even better this time around.

A thought has occurred to me. It's a long shot fellas so don't bank on it. Recall that WaW on Wii never received any DLC because of the original internal memory limitations. The Wii SKU was never designed to have DLC so even AFTER System Menu 4.0 with SD access was released, Activision couldn't push Treyarch into DLC because that money, time and resources were never planned for it.

What I'm speculating as a potential hold up is Activision realized that they could implement DLC into the Wii SKU of MW2 so development had to be put on hold while the specifics were planned out which if you time things up would mean they couldn't announce the Wii iteration alongside the HD SKU's because things on the Wii side were still changing and being finalized.

It's on the extreme end of the plausible stick but I'd sure like to be right about it.

That's a darn good theory. And it does hold some water, but as you said, I wouldn't bank on it.

Well Activision has the infrastructure built for DLC. It could justify them creating the MW2 Wii SKU if they could use Guitar Hero download Metrics as an example of how their profit could be extended over the long term.

Hell I hope that is the case.

Its all wishful thinking till we hear something official....

But remember since Nintendo hasn't exactly made an update to support DLC for disc games on the Wii Shop Channel, you have to either make you own channel specific to the game, or make an in-game store to purchase the DLC. I don't know what's going to happen with that.

I don't need DLC, All I need is MW2 on the Wii.

I'd much rather see some FPS' that are made for the Wii.
