Most games they are stupid. It's a remant of poor game design. Trying to mimic the random encounter of the wilderness elements from D&D like games. The heritage is obsolete. I could bear it in world encounters, but it shouldn't exist in other locations.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
I dislike 'em for the most part. There are some games that have struck a perfect balance between the number of random encounters and the difficulty etc. (suikoden 1,2, wild arms (1)) but most just don't work well. I would much rather see the monsters on screen (star ocean/grandia).
I prefer seeing the enemy.. gives a choice.... then again, seeing the ennemy makes me think i'm missing something if I don't beat them all....

They add more challenge to a very easy genre so I'm for them but most people whine though so I guess we have to compromise

Random encounters were for all purposes to save on animation and graphics back in the day. But just a voice work is now capable instead of sitting reading boring text, random blind encounter have worn out it's use.
I'm just saying...
I love having the option to battle or not. Personally, I know that if I need to train... I'll run into them every time, so it's really not a problem for me. Star Ocean for 360 was amazing with this.
Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"
I don't mind them at all... I don't see why people bitch about it, just use run if you really don't want to fight. I like them because I love to level up. ^_^
