BTW BR of 50 you will never beat the gates of hell.

There are plenty of people who have beaten Gates of Hell at a BR between 20 and 30.

Yeah, thats because once you hit BR 50 he becomes nearly impossible. You need to be either below 50 or above 60.

My gosh, I have played through this game before and all I have to say is I must have gotten lucky on a couple battles because this game is nigh impossible.  This Mother Freaking game has screwed me over so many times the last couple days that I almost broker my controller by throwing against the wall (thankfully only the wall was damaged)

What the hell was square thinking?  I'm at a point in the game that I have leveled my guys up about as far as they will go, and I still can't win these battles.  Now, it wouldn't be so bad if the battles didn't last like 2 hours, but they do.  When you lose a battle that took you two hours, it is probably the most frustrating things I have ever come across.

I Love th Enemy levels with you thing, it makes the game more strategic and keeps from overpowering and breezing through the game. I wish more RPG's did this, there to easy now

Tactics Did it..Except for Story Line Fight or Bosses...But the enemy helpers always macthed your lvl...

Battle rank is roughly a measure of the number of enemies you've beaten, it's NOT a measure of your strength. Each of your soldiers have a bunch of different stats, and they level up independently of each other. To level up a stat you have to use it in battle. If you want a strong fighter have one soldier only use combat arts. If you want a strong healer have one soldier only use healing magic, and so on.

Enemies have a battle rank number of their own. Strong enemies typically have a high BR, while weak enemies have a low BR. You gain stats in battle based on the difference between your BR and the enemy BR. Thus in general fighting a strong enemy (high BR) will significantly improve your stats with each battle. Fighting weak enemies (low BR) will hardly improve your stats at all.

Since the players BR slowly increases with each battle regardless of the enemy strength, this makes it increasingly harder to find enemies that will boost your stats as you progress through the game. Eventually your BR will reach a point where you won't be able to improve your stats at all anymore. And if you mostly fought weak enemies up until this point, you may not be strong enough to beat the final bosses.

To play this game properly do the following from the start of the game:

1) If on PC: Un-install the game.
2) Return the game and get your money back for this borked system!

I corrected your quote for you.

Folks, don't waste your time with a system that broken!  What you are telling me is that the best way to play the game is to experience the absolute LEAST amount of content!  This is simply a retardedly broken game play mechanic.  Do not waste your time, and even more importantly, make sure to return your product to hit Square in the nuts and tell them it's just plain stupid!  I just started the game...dug around online and found this information out...and am saving myself the headache and uninstalling right now, heh.

New account AND necro-bump?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

At least hard games still exist.

I think Ninja Gaiden II alone is proof of that.

EDIT: Wow, had no idea the thread was this old.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Hahaha, yes, sorry.  Didn't realize it was that old either...Googled my way here.  But anyways, I was reading about this here and on a few other forums, and this entire thing really frustrated me...just the concept and how seriously flawed it is...how BR is not coupled with the strength of your character, but still coupled with the strength of the enemies!  So wrong.

Anyways...I had to post to say, dudes, don't play the game!  So many people on here are like, "Oh well...just avoid all the mobs."  WTF are you playing for!??  Broken game, save your precious time for a better game!

You guys thought this game was hard? I guess it is above average, but not what I would define as hard. Also I hate games where you can just grind for a few hours and then beat a boss. I like my games to have a strategy to them, and you win because you thought it out in an intelligent way, not because you wasted 3hrs fighting weak enemies. I also hate the level with you aspect too. It is just as bad. I think a good way of balancing things out is having a few enemies that occur in an area early on level wise, and then NEW enemies that are a little tougher. Everything stays the same level though.

Controller > Wall?

o.O

I'd think the wall would be more expensive to patch than a new controller.

Yeah this is also a reason why jrpg's are not as popular.
