Forums - Gaming - For the Ogre fans: I'm thinking of buying Tactics Ogre on PS1

See title.

Yeah, it's expensive, but it's not much more expensive than any Limited Edition of a game, and I am willing to bet it's really, really good. I love Matsuno's work. Hell, I love work based on Matsuno's work - Ogre Battle 64 and Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis are some of my favorite games. His touch in Final Fantasy XII made it my favorite in the series. I'm going to end up playing Mad World almost exclusively because of his involvement in the title.

So here's the question for those few who have played it: is it worth the asking price? Mindful that I thought Knights of Lodis was pretty snazzy, and enjoyed the games I've enjoyed (including the original Ogre Battle), is this game the bee's knees? I've heard some people call it the best game Matsuno ever made. What's the score?

Somebody help me make this decision.

Tactics ogre is one of the best if not the best tactics game ever made. I like it better than Final Fantasy tactics (made by the same people) as I believe the story is better since the mythology had had a much longer time to be created/built in the Ogre universe (IMHO).

Tactics ogre plays similar to its GBA cousin but is much more involved. The story takes a little bit longer to get fleshed out and you care for them more.

Is it that much better? I've heard good things - some of them so glowing I took them to be hyperbole.

I was about to come in and tell you to buy Knights of Lodis first, but looks like you're ten steps ahead of me haha.

If you liked those ones, you'll like the PS1 game, no doubt about it. From what I've heard, it's a more in-depth, longer version of the same type of game as Knights.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Man I loved those games. The thing about Matsuno is that he tackles issues that most other Japanese games I've played only gesture at wildly. More than that, he's earnest, and he seems like he actually cares about the issues. People pretending to be him do great things regardless!

Two votes for buying...

I loved it. It was my first or second game of SRPG type so I may be a little biased. I really liked the fact that the animations were so detailed, I believe in one of the cut scenes one character slaps another and it is amazing how they accomplish that (all cut scenes are via in-game engine).

The story is full of intrigue and like knights of lodis there are multiple story paths.

ogre fants unite! I was thinking the same thing bro. I just could not justify myself to pay that much on ebay for it. I own Ogre battle 64 (favorite game of all time), Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis, and Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. I was going to pick up the one for ps1 but man it's just fucking much money.

$49.99

Your options are not "Buy it" or "Don't buy it."

Your options are "Buy this game" or "Buy another game."  The real question you need to ask yourself is "How many other titles can I name right now that are likely better than this game?"

If you can name a bunch of other titles that are easily better then save your money for those because you'll have more fun.  However if this game looks like it could go on to become a great and enjoyable experience or even an all time favorite then why are you not buying it?
