Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft is responding to Sony, not Nintendo (Interesting Analysis)

^ Innovation? How exactly does one measure innovation? We can tell their gaming division has been much more effective than Sony and much less effective than Nintendo, so mediocre? Lastly who cares about DirectX10? If consoles don't use something, then PCs won't either for a very long time.

Innovation is admitedly subjective. Comming from a PC background MS haven't really done much that stands out for me. The complaint about DX10 is more to do with the fact they tried to force PC gamers to buy it when as Crysis has shown, a lot of the effects are possible on DX9. They lied and tried to force us to upgrade our OS for DX10, when as you said, very few people cared. They made this more obvious when Halo 2 and Shadowrun came out for PC. Both looked crap compared to DX9 games out at the same time.

And PC games will use effects that consoles don't and won't use until the next console gen of hardware comes out (power restrictions etc.). Even multiplats will use effects on PC that are turned off on console (e.g. Mirror's Edge PC with PhysX).
