Many People think that Pikmin was a game that started with development on the GameCube. WRONG
Pikmin started development on the N64DD back in 1997! It was with a virtual pet game called CABBAGE! Cabbage was a pet breeding game that was announced in 1997 for the N64DD Console. It was about breeding Cretures. You could feed the creature or buy toys for the creature and everything. That creature is thought by many to be a Pikmin. In 2000 Nintendo stated that Cabbage was still in the works but they wanted to have an explosive new idea behind the game. In 2001 Pikmin was shown...
Yeah thats right these odd looking cretures were about to be pets that you could raise on your own N64 Console! Back in 2000 Nintendo wanted to make Cabbage into a whole new game with a major story behind it. At the same time Mr. Miyamoto was interested in gardens. POW Pikmin was born!! Pikmin ended up becoming a huge hit to anyone who has played it. It also ended up being a million seller with 1.6 Million copies sold! In an interview Mr. Miyamoto was told this "Pikmin is doing good right" Mr. Miyamoto responded by saying that Pikmin sales started off strong but died off quickly. Many say that this was due to the lack of people who knew about Pikmin. In 2002 a sequel was talked about:
In December of 2002 Nintendo talked about a Pikmin Sequel by stating That they could make a Pikmin sequel within only 6 months! In early 2003 Nintendo announced that Pikmin 2 would be out in October 2003. It got delayed.(Oh No) Nintendo stated that the delay was due to making sure Nintendo fans got a high quality game. The sequel ended up finally coming out in April 2004 in Japan and Augest 2004 in America. It sold just as much as the 1st game did in Japan but sadly sold 130K less then the first in other regions and about 440K less in America. Despite lower sales it sold 1 million copies world wide. Many think the lower sales were due to the game being EXTREMLY Rare and hard to find. So Rare that it is still sells for $40 at gamestop. Many consider Pikmin 2 to be the better game of the franchise. Almost 5 years later:
NPC baby!! About 5 years later Nintendo put out their NPC line up. It features both Pikmin and Pikmin 2. So far NPC Pikmin is the 2nd best selling NPC title with 320K Copies sold! NPC Pikmin2 has sold 100K Copies without an American Release!
