Forums - PC - Video card advice needed

I'm considering selling my two 3870's and buying a new 4870.

Normally I wouldn't bother upgrading for such a small difference, but my motherboard only allows for the two cards to run in crossfire at 8x/8x rather than 16x/16x.

So my question is, would it be worth my time to get a 4870? Is the difference that noticeable from running at 8x to 16x?

Thanks.

Hell no!!

i wouldn;t upgrade until ati comes out with its next gen of video cards (or nvidia)   as the performance increase is not enough to justify the cost

Hmm, is it supposed to be soon, I wonder?

I gave up following this stuff years ago.

I don't have a solid date,   the specs just came out which are quite inpressive.  Just about 2x faster then the 4870

Not really 2x faster than 4870. I estimate 1.6-1.7x faster.

First rumors said release in July, but latest news say Q4 for the nu ATI cards.

I don't know the date but if you look at history, the ATI 3000's and Nvidia 8000's matured right before Vista release and the 4000's and 9000's came out about the same time as the launch. Win7 being right around the corner and back to school/holidays coming up means we'll probably see something in the 280s (290?) and 4870 (DirectX 11 ready)... which will be followed shortly after by the next gen.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

coming from fudzilla, which a certain dutch AMD insider already debunked.

I have 4870. I use it more for movies than gaming.
