Forums - Sony - So there's this game rental shop...

They've got a rather good deal going. They offered me the following:

1.) 2 games (any game) and 2 blu-ray movies (any movie) can be rented at a time,

2.) games and movies can be changed every day if I want,

3.) for roughly $20 a month,

4.) but I gotta drop a full year's worth of rental at the very beginning (roughly $240).

is it worth it? (I don't mind the owning vs. renting argument, as long as I get the most value for my money)

That's a good deal, Blockbuster charges even more and you can have only 1 game at time, this has movies + games for cheap, I'd do it.

yeah but i gotta put down a full year's subscription at the start. that's pretty big money at one time.

Well, check out Gamefly's rates and debate over instant-store but limited choices vs. unlimited but mailing that takes 1-2 days

For $20 a month you could play 2-60 games and watch 2-60 movies. It just depends on how many games you play per month and how many movies you watch per month. For me it would depend how close I was to the store. If it was right down the street, I'd go back every day for the whole year.

Hell yeah! I couldn't say no to that.

it is rather close to my house. it's a 5 minute drive or so. i'm just worried about the annual subscription thing at the very beginning.

Are they decently busy? Any chance of them going under? chain or mom/pop shop?

If they are are in good shape, quickly get new releases, seem busy, etc. it seems like an okay deal. It would suck to drop that much money and have them go under 4-6 months from now.
