So we've all seen the dodgy images of the slimmed down PS3 apearing all over the internet. Sony has claimed that it knows nothing about the whole debacle, but then they said the same thing about the PSP Slim and nearly every other Sony product that was ever leaked early.
Here's why I am totally convinced the PS3 Slim is the real deal.
Why? Well Sony needs to be able to compete with Microsoft this Christmas, and its simply not going to be able to do that if the status quo remains, with a £299 PS3 going up against a £140 360 Arcade.
Sony's recent fiscal report said that it had managed to dramatically cut the manufacturing costs of the PS3 by more than half. Last year Sony and Toshiba both said they were about to start manufacturing cheaper and cooler Cell CPUs in 2009, and Blu-ray players have considerably slimmed down since the PS3 launched in 2006.
Even more telling is the slimmed down PS3 chip board that was revealed at CES in January.
Not only that, but releasing a slimmed down PS3 at a cheaper price fits in with what Sony did with the PS2 last generation, with the PS2 Slimline releasing around four years after the original PS2.
While the PS3 is an excellent machine, we all know Sony has had a rough ride so far this generation. If they release a slimmer and cheaper PS3 this Christmas, it just might give the company the boost and sales momentum it's looking for.
Trust me, this PS3 Slim is real!
