Forums - Sales - Sony did with PS3 what history told it not to do.

If we go by History, they were screwed no matter what...

You win twice then you're done... the next gen...

Atari 2600
Atari 7800
NES
SNES
PS1
PS2

 supersticious are we?

i think its just a big coincidence. Its not like the console wars are predetermined.

This, Sony messed up with the PS3 stuff is getting old. Sony did not mess up. They did not care more about Blu-ray than video games. They simlpy made the best console possible at the time, charged an extreamly fair price, and the consumers failed from there. Now I will not completly lay the blame on the public, because I know Sony messed up in one area. The marketing of the PS3 has been down right pathetic. Sony, nor Microsoft for that matter, have done anything to show that these are no longer GAMES machines. PS3, and 360, are Home Entertainment Computers. They reach way beyoind what a simple games machine has ever done, and to think you should be able to pick one up at games machine prices is absurd.

Now I know I am going to get the morons out there that say, "well I just want a games machine". WTF is the matter with you. Why do you want to allow these corperations to continue to rape you when they are giving you optioppns that are extremly fair? I can not begin to discrbe how stupid people look when they have, a Blu-ray Player, a Wii, a 360, and a cable box all hooked up to there TV, when you can get the fuctionality of all of them in one box for much less. Or the people I seee that have a Cell phone, an MP3 player, a DS, and a GPS system, when there is a device on the market that does all of those thing, and for the most part it does them better.

consumers dont fail, its the company who fails. Your supposed to make a product that the people want to buy, not something YOU want people to buy.

Thing is, PS3 offers a lot for what you pay, but its still too much for what is essentially a "games console". A 360 Arcade can play the exact same multiplats as the cheapest PS3.......at half the price.

Sony got cocky and failed, never blame the market, the market is always right, they weed out the strong from the weak. Dont bash the market, its the same market that made PS1 and PS2 a success. The market knows what its doing.

Curse you, Redspear!!! My one observation about video game consoles, and you blow it all to hell!!

I didn't know that N64 was more powerful than PS1, how so?

a 64 bit console vs a 32 bit console? cmon man...............

So you're saying the Jaguar was better than the Playstation too?

N64 was more powerful then PS1. PS1 won.

Xbox was more powerful then PS2. PS2 won.

History has shown that the most powerful tech doesnt win because it usually leads to a higher price point. Sony was smart to make decent but not the best tech so it was mass market friendly and not as costly as optimizing for the more powerful consoles.

Now Sony seemingly spits in histories face with PS3. They make the most powerful tech and therefore have the highest asking price. To make it worse they came out a year after 360. I dont understand why Sony didnt stick to their winning formula.

My guess they thought the Bluray war was more important then video game market share, I dont know......

stringer said ps3 like console was something they decided to do a long time ago.

awesome for engineering point of view, but not the market wise.

While I get the point you are making I really hope you are not implying that the Playstation was more powerful then the N64. The N64 had some limitations when it came to memory but it also had zero load times AA and tons of fog that made you feel like you were running around in a muggy muddy foggy jungle....errr wait a sec.

No seriously though the N64 was a really powerful machine for its time. Oh and BTW the Jaguar had 2 32 bit proccesors and wasn't 64 bit...Do the math!

Well, I never knew this...

sony's ps3 aint the problem, its sony that's the problem, how many kids actually had half a grand to buy their system at release, none. only my cousin who gets paid $15 and hour could comfortably afford one. the 360 i may add was also pricey too just not as pricey as the ps3 and its only NOW that killzone 2 and soon to be release FF13 will be release so yea sony should thank all their loyal fans who are still around.

i'll just be happy with them when they learn to make a reliable system. i havent heard any complaints on the psp so they are 1/4 right now. they put all this money into the ps3 and it still has issues....
