Forums - Sony - Analysts And BHR-3 Say 100$ PS3 Price Cut By Summer's End

It's very hard to believe that Sony would drop the price and forsake some (desperately) needed profits just to please some retailers. Profability is the key issue facing Sony now. And then a price cut of a 100$? I doubt it.

Sony forecast for 2009-2010 leaves no doubt that a price cut is coming.

There is no way they would forecast a 30% increase in hardware sales otherwise...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

If they are really serious about the 13 million projection, they have to cut the price ASAP...

Last fiscal year they sold 5 million between Apr-Oct, 3 million in Nov-Dec and 2 million in Jan-Mar. They definitely need a boost in the Apr-Oct period to attain 13m.

November is too late, since Apr-Oct would probably be ~4 million instead of 5, leaving 9 million left for Nov-Mar which is almost double of what they sold this year.

So August +/- 1 month would be my bet. This is of course assuming they're actually planning to fulfill the 13m goal...

Sony's 2007 sales goal was kind of a running joke and that included a price cut, kinda included 2.

Doesn't Sony have the habbit to exaggerate their sales and correct them down later on? Maybe they rather prefer the risk to be wrong later than to look weak now for the shareholders. The shareholders can't be happy and must be twitchy for any good news.

Actually the impact on shares if a lot worse if you miss your estimates than if you lowball them so this is really doubtfull...

And before this it was "certain" that there would be a 100$ cut by the end of April. What happened to that projection?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
