Forums - Microsoft - Is this the year Microsoft assaults casuals and ignores Sony?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124215416209111679.html

The rumors of Microsofts motion controls are probably real. That would explain Microsoft uber top secret silence these past couple of months. The last time they stayed dead silent was before they unveiled the Xbox 360 for the first time in 2005 and announced it was being released that same year.

Microsoft probably understands that playing the graphics war with Sony is probably gonna go no where and fast as most people just dont care. Sony doesnt have a first party game that has even beaten Guitar Hero 3 on Xbox 360.  (PS 2 level graphics)  The war is on now for a piece of the casual pie. Is this the year Microsoft goes all out on casuals? Will it work? I think it can. Microsoft has the right price point, the right IP's (Banjo, VP, Kameo, Conker, etc.) This E3 will be amazing.

Well as much as 360 fans are going nuts about beating PS3 by a few weeks, MS needs a new strategy for the 360 besides: "let's cut the Price to DS levels".

But I want a traditional new BK platformer. =(

E3 is going to suck!

Well at this point in the console war, Putting out a new shooter or other Hardcore game, just isnt gonna do anything. Its not gonna move hardware no matter how good it is. Its all the same, been there done that. If you want to leap frog, you have to do something different and game changing.

anyway, Sony is going the casual route as well because they ''captured the hardcore''. So what's the point of this thread again?

I'm sorry, what?    They don't have a 1st party game that doesn't look better then a PS2 game?   Is that what your saying, just want to clarify.

I strickly meant sales, and desirability. Sorry.  Sony has better graphics for sure.

Yeah Megadude, unless you were going for comedic effect, you are going to have to try a little harder next time!  HAHA.

On topic, I'm cautiously optimistic that MS is JUST crazy enough to go after the casual AND hardcore market.

Microsoft already has the hard core market. 30 million! They seriously need regular gamers now.

They would be crazy NOT to.  Keep your hardcore base satisfied while appealing to the emerging casuals now that the price is closer to mainstream?  That's called smart planning.
