Forums - Sony - Sony's Marketing Failures Have Caused the PS3's Downfall

No, its the false advertising. Most PS3 owners were most excited for games like Tekken 6, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy V XIII, Red Dead Revolver 2, The Getaway, MGS 4, Final Fantasy VII remake, and Heavy Rain. Based on the E3 2005 and E3 2006. When games like Resistence, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, Socom and others came, there was very little excitement for them as no one was anticipating them. Killzone 2 was hyped also in 2005, and again in 2007, but it came out too late and after Gears 1, Gears 2, Halo 3, COD4, COD WAW, Left 4 Dead, and Resistence 2. Of which only Gears 1 was hyped in 2005.

PRICE, and slow release of good games.

If the price wasn't so high right now I would buy a PS3 for myself, there are finally enough games that I like out now after 2 years, but price is still too high.

But even if it started at $250 I would not have bought it until probably last christmas (or few months ago) because there just wasn't good enough library of games that were my type.

also loosing BC is a huge downside to me right now too, I was just thinking how never played FF12 yet and was gonna rent or buy it the other day, then remembered that the PS3 my dad has isn't BC so I can't play it.

Overestimating the power of their brand was their main mistake, the rest was like a snowball rolling down hill.

No matter how successful a product is, not overestimating its power (and because of that, showing arrogance) should be basic requirement for potentially successful businesses in the medium and long terms.

Though, that is one mistake people in charge keep repeating over and over again..what the fuck?

So defensive. He never said those companies werent. Hes just stating that Sony was this gen. Which is true and on point since its a SONY thread.

Yeah, the main reason I bought a PS3 was because of BC. Too bad my 60GB kicked the bucket a few minutes ago while I was playing DS2. It plays PS3 games perfectly fine though.

$599.99 US DOLLARS.

What more do you want from them? Yea in the early days they made mistakes and games were not good, as they should have been. Online was weak and stuff. Not to mention price was way too high. That was years ago. If you are gonna talk about what happened years ago, why talk about how MS pushed faulty hardware out? But now it seems be improving on that aspect alot, so it is not needed to be discussed anymore.

Lets focus on the moment right now. What have we got? A better online system thats free, games are getting better, more exclusives, more blu ray films, etc.

So what more do people demand from Sony? Oh well they need better marketing blah blah blah. They have done better marketing lately by releasing great games. Also marketing costs money so why waste cash doing that when it can be used to help fund Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, MAG, GOW 3, etc?

Just  a few days ago, a sad thing happened. MS laid off employees that did the in-game advertising, so as you can see marketing a product is not cheap and especially with this time of an economic crisis it is just better to hang on to that money.

Last, people are well educated enough to do research on a product before going to buy one. We have been gaming for a long time and we dont need ads to tell us what to buy as we can get info from mags, internet, friends, etc.

So answer my question, what more do you want from Sony? How about they make some casual exercise game with EyeToy and sell billions? Will that satisfy you?

anyone who mentions the crying baby should first learn that marketing is not always meant to be a direct message to go and buy the product. Oftentimes marketing is simply to promote "buzz"; Judging from how much I've heard people say "SONY" in relation to that commercial, it was a successful commercial.

More successful in fact, than the one where everyone's t-shirts were games. I did, however like the commercials they did entitled "reflections" and they should have kept those up because they were cool looking, interesting and only about 10 seconds long. ALl they needed to do was throw a little more gameplay in there and they would have been perfect.

I see MS and Wii ads at least once per hour. I haven't seen a PS3 commercial in ages besides the Killzone 2 one.
