I applaud the original poster for their argument. The reality is that the slur is bogus, and has been for years. Specifically because Sony went out full throttle after that gaming segment. That is why the list for their console is skewed that way. Do not be flustered it does not matter how you present the data. Had you included all games they would have said that it should have been exclusives.
The sales argument is also bogus. The slur is against the machine, and if your entire argument is that it is a commentary on the players then that word cannot be used any more any way. That makes the word a slur against other members of this very community, and that is against the rules. Seriously though I consider it more a case of poor taste coming out of the PS3 camp.
Halo sells almost ten million, and Killzone 2 sells less then two million. No matter how you spin it that is just wrong. A great game got neutered to a flop, because the owners lack decent judgment. So at best if you go with the sales argument you can argue that the PS3 players as a whole reject the genre. So the difference is there against their will. To put it another way they would have rather not had Killzone 2, Resistance, or Resistance 2. Two thirds the base means there should be two third the sales not a sixth.
For those belly aching about the classification I saw nothing glaringly wrong. I will say anyone who thinks Crackdown is a shooter doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. There are too many options for combat. There is leveling. Then there is also the fact that over half the game involves jumping from rooftop to rooftop to collect orbs. Action adventure is the catch all and catches that game. Even though it is closest to a platforming game. Really it is all about jumping, running, and climbing. Now does that sound like a shooter to anyone.
Mass Effect is a role playing game. You may think you are coy, but it has leveling, timers, special moves, character changing, equipment leveling, and so on and so forth. You cannot play the game as a true shooter especially with the auto locking which takes place, and the fact that you must level.
Speaking to Metal Gear. I honestly have never played any game in the franchise. So I actually have no bias as most of you obviously do have. First I will say this Stealth is not a genre at best it could be a sub genre, but is actually a descriptor for a game within an existing genre. In other words any game in any genre could have stealth elements. Granted in some genres it would be pretty lame. So the real question left is what does the other content consist of outside of stealth.
Now if the elements outside of stealth are about player skill based gun play then it will either be a third person or first person shooter. Now if the game marries a lot of genre elements such as Assassins Creed which married platforming, fighting, and projectile elements then and only then could the game be considered a action adventure. The genre is not about what you feel. It is about the content. So the original poster may be quite correct if there is a lot of shooting going on after you sneak around, and if it is something else he is wrong. Personally I am thinking he is probably right. Mostly because most games that incorporate stealth are usually shooters.
Anyway to the original poster if you see someone try to spout this nonsense, and most intelligent members of these forums do not actually say this kind of crap anymore. They know it is bullshit they know the numbers. Then feel free to tell that member at least the 360 has games unlike the PS3. You can spin the fact that the 360 has over a hundred more games to mean the PS3 has far less. You are technically correct even though the difference is very small. Which is what the difference between shooters on these platforms are right now.
If a couple games selling better, or a argument about name recognition is the best argument for allowing members to use the slur shooterbox. Then you have a lot of leeway to use has no games. I really pose this question to those that posted in this thread. Which slur do you think does more damage. I think it is the latter. I know so, because any time anyone has said that over the last year most of you have gone into convulsions.
That rolls us back to the real point those who live in glass houses probably should not throw stones. You lower the argument to basic grunting, and I can guarantee you that the sales, and the litany of names the PS3 has collected over the years are going to drown you out. The labeling was never a good idea to begin with.
