I highly doubt this will affect MS.

since they have been posting massive declines in revenue, and loses?, while this is a drop in the bucket for them it still stings a bit considering the overall picture. This still isn't anything like the whole RROD warranty thing costing them what.. 1.3 billion?

Overall MS is maintatining profitability.  And the RROD costs were 1 Billion.  This isn't even guaranteed since there is obviously stated at the bottom another appeal by MS.

We all know your dislike for MS, ssj12, but you really should try to hide it better.

Damn... Microsoft will have to work an extra half-hour to make that back!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Microsoft already lost billions on Xbox 360, and they won't be able to turn a profit when this generation ends. What MS can do now is reduce the loss the Xbox 360 made to them.

MS pirates anti-piracy software...now that's comedy!

flame shield on: just a joke, chill.

Old new like this ''April 9, 2009'',..+ big title MICROSOFT LOSES 388 MILLION DOLLARS!!! + kill zone 2 avatar = pathetic ''sony hater  thread'' ,..

My thoughts exactly!

Wow, barely anyone is actually discussing the lawsuit.

1) This is not from a patent holding company and is in fact a valid company which licenses it's technology to notable companies such as Sony.
2) This has absolutely nothing to do with the Entertainment and Devices division (IE Xbox).
3) This has to do with the encryption technology used for activating Windows XP and "some" Microsoft Office programs.
4) Microsoft hasn't lost any money as of yet. They will appeal and drag the court case on.

Basically, in 1993 some guy went to Microsoft proposing that they use his encryption technology for their software to prevent piracy. Then Microsoft used encryption technologies that were similar to his for Windows XP and Office many years later. Honestly, it's probably mostly BS. Companies get hit with patent infringement lawsuits for some of the most ridiculous "similarities".

Oh come on.

Microsoft revenue in millions:

Q1-02 $6,126
Q2-02 $7,741
Q3-02 $7,245
Q4-02 $7,253
Q1-03 $7,746
Q2-03 $8,541
Q3-03 $7,835
Q4-03 $8,065
Q1-04 $8,215
Q2-04 $10,153
Q3-04 $9,175
Q4-04 $9,292
Q1-05 $9,189
Q2-05 $10,818
Q3-05 $9,620
Q4-05 $10,161
Q1-06 $9,741
Q2-06 $11,837
Q3-06 $10,900
Q4-06 $11,804
Q1-07 $10,811
Q2-07 $12,542
Q3-07 $14,398
Q4-07 $13,371
Q1-08 $13,762
Q2-08 $16,367
Q3-08 $14,454
Q4-08 $15,837
Q1-09 $15,061
Q2-09 $16,629
Q3-09 $13,648

OMG!!!! Lowest revenues since quarter 4 of 2007... after posting the highest revenue for the company in quarter 2 of 2009!!!!!  Now, if we're going to talk about net income, they only made $2,977,000,000.  That's their lowest since Quarter 2 of 2007.

Okay, so it's true they've declined in revenue and income, but they're still healthy.  If the trend continues there could be a problem, but they're far from posting any actual losses.  There's companies far worse off in our current financial climate.  Microsoft is far away from being one of them
