Forums - Gaming - Pearl Jam Rock Band project due next year

Another music game,straight from gamespot:

When Pearl Jam reissued its seminal album Ten in March, MTV Games and Harmonix collaborated with the grunge rockers to offer a playable version through Rock Band. Now, MTV Games and Harmonix are teaming up with Pearl Jam once more on a "Pearl Jam Rock Band project" that will feature live cuts from the band's entire catalog. Platforms for the project were not revealed, though it is slated to arrive in 2010.

Until then, Pearl Jam has invited its fan club members to select their favorite live performances of more than 40 different catalog hits through the band's official Web site. By way of a Rhapsody playlist widget, fans can listen to hundreds of different live performances of individual songs, with the versions that are played the most times being selected as the best.

I'm not turning this into a debate. Both bands have strong fanbases. But honestly....it's a massive step down from the Beatles. Maybe Rock Band Rolling Stones but Pearl Jam just feels like a major step down imo.

In the future they should have a "The Clash" one I am a huge fan of that band.Punk bands rule.

Regardless of whether or not you like them, it's extremely interesting how they're doing this.

Needless to say, I love Pearl Jam.

Of the ones listed, only the bolded ones I could easily dismiss.

The underlined one, however, I'm sure the Pearl Jam community are just as excited as me to play.

Cannot wait.

I like Pearl Jam (have since the 90's), but does every band get their own Rock Band/Guitar Hero? I haven't played either series, but how does one get excited anymore?

ive seen pearl jam 10 times live. and going in august to toronto for number 11. Greatest american rock band ever. hands down. looking forward to this. day 1 purchase for me. The fact its all live is interesting as eddie fucks up or changes the lyrics so often, haha.

Some notable exclusions:

From Binaural

  1. Grievance- would be so fun on drums
  1. Breakerfall - short but fun, energetic song
  • Really wish Grievance was given a chance to be on there

No Code

  1. Hail Hail - may be a bit boring in the game though... would finally get some of the lyrics though
  2. In My Tree - This would be great fun, especially on drums
  • Overall pleased, but very disappointed by the #2 omission

Pearl Jam

  • They have this one really well covered: Severed hand, Worldwide Suicide, Life Wasted, Marker in the Sand and Inside Job. Great choices although I may have liked to have seen Parachutes. Especially looking forward to Severed Hand.

Riot Act

  • Not my favourite album. I Am Mine, 1/2 Full and Love Boat Captain are fine choices, I'm just not overly fond of the album.

Ten

  • Already released. I'd be fine with taking only a few songs... maybe a live version of Black. They're typically even much better than the studio version. Should be great on guitar and vocals.

Vitalogy

  1. They covered this on extremely well with Last Exit, Betterman, Whipping, Spin the Black Circle, Satan's Bed and Nothingman. The only song I may have added is Immortality. Although I'm not complaining, they've nearly included the whole album.

VS

  1. Daughter - A classic. Odd that they left it out.
  2. Glorified G - Very fun song. The guitar parts would have been great
  3. Dissident - A fan favourite, again, odd they left it out.
  • Overall, very pleased with the choices from VS. Go, Animal, Small Town (My favourite PJ song) would be extremely fun; Go for it's guitar and drums, Animal for the guiitar and vocals and Small Town for its vocals.

Yield

  1. No Way - Funky song, would have been a nice change of pace. Maybe not a whole lot of live versions to choose from though
  2. All Those Yesterdays - Just a personal favourite
  • Great choices, otherwise: Do the Evolution, Brain of J should be fun, energy songs on all instruments while Given to Fly and Wishlist are great slower songs for beginners.

B-sides/Other

  1. Yellow Ledbetter is a very noticeable omission. Probably can't nail down the lyrics Watch video at end of post.
  • Footsteps and Wash I could do without, however, I got ID, Down and State of Love and Trust are fantastic choices.

Yeah, I'm a bit excited. Plus there should be several other bands on there that were around in their early years: Nirvana, Soundgarden (I hope). etc. I'd also think there'd be some of their influences like, hopefully, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and The Who.

Hilarious video on the funniest misheard lyrics in the song 'Yellow Ledbetter'

I'm not saying that they aren't a great band. I'm just saying that there are some bands that need to be covered in my opinion before Pearl Jam even gets mentioned. I really think there should be a Rock Band or Guitar Hero for the Rolling Stones and/or Queen (even if there is a Singstar Queen).

I can understand where you're coming from there. Both, are undoubtedly much bigger bands than Pearl Jam but I think there's more to it than just snagging the biggest bands. The Rolling Stones, for example, would no doubt require a heafty share to publish a Rockband game.

Pearl Jam on the otherhand, not so much. Plus Pearl Jam are currently celebrating their 20th year and are looking for avenues in which to celebrate it. Add to that, Pearl Jam have quite a sizable devouted fanbase who are likely to buy this game. Hell there are many fans who buy all of their live albums (there are hundreds and hundreds of them). Plus they have a bit of mainstream pull as well, with their earlier works. A far cry from either Queen or the Rolling Stones, but it's still there.

Obviously I'm biased here (points to username) but I think the release will be justified with sales once it comes out. Just don't expect it to compare to the Beatles

Yeah, it's quite a good video. Todd MacFarlene did the animation. I wish they made more videos though.

BTW, that wasn't a music video I posted. It was a 'misheard lyrics' video. Really quite hilarious and is likely why it isn't a viaable option for the game. Not even Eddie Vedder remembers the lyrics.

They are a great band no doubt about it. I don't think it would be too hard to make a Queen Rock Band game honestly. I know the Rolling Stones are way particular about their music. I remember when The Verve made the song Bittersweet Symphony, and it sounded like the instrumental from a Rolling Stones song and once the lawyers were done, The Verve got NOTHING from the song. x.o

Yikes. I liked that song too. The video was pretty good too, from what I can remember.

I'm not a huge Stones fan. There are a few songs that I really enjoy, but not a whole lot. Queen on the other hand... I'm still hoping for a NA release of Queen Singstar.

Why'd we get ABBA, but not Queen?
