And why the hell would you think coming to this country would get yourself killed or gone to prison?  This is one of the few countries I've been (except Japan, those cops mainly carry big sticks they will not hesitate to fuck your world up with.) to that you dont see police or "paramilitary" police officers walking around on a normal basis with some sort of assault rifle.  In fact, most Americans probably go their entire lives with never seeing an automatic weapon or assault rifle out on the streets. Not to mention, cops here compared to Europe have extremely strict rules on what they can do, while cops in the UK dont have as strict of rules on what they can do (had a friend of mine beat by a Bobby or whatever they call them there, kind of crazy)

Wait what!? Most of the world (even Europe) has military or police officers patroling the streets with assault rifles!? That's not unusual!? I'm in Texas and I've never seen assault rifles or any weapons on the streets and most people here own a gun (not assault rifles but at least a pistol).

Good response btw prlatino86

Prlatino86 - I agree with much of what you have to say, and I'm impressed at how much you wrote too.

However one point I will dispute is the rules UK cops have to follow. They really are very strict, more so than many other European countries. And I'm speaking from personal experience of a few run ins with them and a good friend being one as well. They aren't allowed to carry guns, even when the armed police shoot someone it's national news, and they are accountable for every move they make.

My friends force recently worked with some US cops who kept commenting on the differences like that. I've seen my fair share of drunken brawls that got pretty nasty when I've been out at night but the cops never even got close to beating them so I don't know what your friend did.

Only thing they do that pisses people off here is all the speed traps.

yeah, i know about cops now being allowed their to carry guns, i forgot to add that in with the Japanese cops comment.

Oh, and what my friend did, haha, well, lets just say he had a little too much alcohol in his system, and decided to give UK cops a lesson on proper english, hahahaha.

@ookaze

OH, heres another thing.  President Sarkozy (yes, im an american that knows the leaders of other countries)  not even a month ago, talked about the possibility of Airstrikes against Iran.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/28/world/europe/28france.html?ei=5124&en=770025bcb45ca171&ex=1346040000&adxnnl=1&partner=digg&exprod=digg&adxnnlx=1190252654-VsdGaIKc+SYEMuRRm1j2SA

So, you hate on us for being "stupid" and allowing our leaders to let war happen, yet would you consider it "not your fault" if your own elected leader is suggesting military action against Iran?

I think it's funny...

I've been in america a few times (my mother works there), and by my experience (and my mother's as a teacher in an atlanta's high school) is this:

In general, Americans have a lower level of education than Europe (my mother has been working 4 years, and maybe she will move there). I said, in general, and there is not so much difference. ¿Why? Educational system is different. In europe it's more "social". In general, high level education is free (a public university in spain costs 700€ a year),  and a higher percentage of people goes to college. In school, we don't have things like bowling as subjets (my mother's high school has it). All of them are "more" serius, whatever we want to be in the future.

In america education is more... i don't know the english word... more... elite. I mean, bright or rich students get an awesome high level formation, the rest get nearly nothing. Here it's different, we all get nearly the same (this, of course, has it's flaws, as the better students don't get what they deserve).

My mother has brought some american students to spain for exchange and some things were just as hilarious as this video, seriously! (if you ask me later, maybe I'd tell you some of them).

With this said... This video could be from anywere... In fact, in a spanish TV program they showed once some people who didn't even know who was our presindent... they tought it was another one (of another party!). You can find dumb people anywere, anytime.

France is no exception (I've in france for 20 days this summer). For example, I had to cover my nose in the subway, as no one seemed to had a shower in the morning (and this does not happen in america!!).

And well, ookaze... your government said "no" to war, but it wasn't for the greater good of humanity... it was because you had interests there. "Surprisingly", the two countries who had the voice against the war, Germany and  France, benefitted from the iraqui fuel... oh... surprise!

Here in Spain, we were against the war, nearly 90% of the people, we marched against it, with huge manifestations (about 2 million people only in Madrid), but our government supported it, because our president was as stupid as G.W. Bush is. Maybe americans are getting the same as we got. If you don't like the political parties of your country, you don't vote. In america, only 50% of people voted, and of them 53% voted Bush... This is  a total of 26,5% of american people supporting bush... You can't say "this is what america wanted" "this is what america believes".

You don't need a high degree career to have common sense,  and many of the people I met there (in America), didn't support bush, the war, or many of the things they see. They were good people, no way as dangerous as ookaze says. Open and well humoured. And yes, I've seen much more cops here in spain (or france), than in atlanta or new york. In fact, at least in spain, if we could have guns, I assure you there would be a criminal ratio higher than NY's bronx

In my opinion, the only thing europeans tend to see the USA as "dangerous ignorants" is because their army is greater than ours... and we, europeans, as we are in possession of our "superior moral code", don't like it (call it envy)

This is only my opinion, I could be wrong.

yeah, the fuckin american education system is based on your money level, i do agree with that.  Jesus, the amount of money tuition costs now adays is staggering, and its getting worse and worse every year.  It can easily costs around 15 grand a year now, or even more.  Its nuts.

You got a point with only 50 percent voter turnout, which is bad in itself i must admit, thats one thing that i wish would be better.

OMFG!
I don't know what's worse: people that find this funny, or people that are saying this could be done in any country.
This is not funny at all, this is just plain scary. Surely all the people that say this could be done in any country are from the USA, trying to minimize the disaster.
Seems like americans don't know how they are perceived outside of the USA.
Even the stupidest people in most country would not support an all out war on a country they don't even know, and I'm talking for most european countries there.
This is scary, because some people actually believe everybody behaves like that outside of the USA, and some people believe these are isolated cases. These are not!
Granted they did take some of the worst state, Texas, but still.
A majority of americans reelected Bush, a majority of them still support a war that had no justification, apart from their president saying there was some proof of bad things. Before even the absurd Irak war started, everybody in the world but the USA knew perfectly well that there was no justification for this war. And we observed in awe and fear at what could happen thanks to STUPID people.
There are intelligent people in the USA, and that's what's even scariest: most americans DON'T listen to them. These people were against the war too.
When people boycott France products because they didn't support or want to be part of such stupidity, what can you expect? Oh yes, even more stupidity like "we saved their ass in WWII" (for the more educated of the morons, still being very wrong), "they're cowards", and whatnot.

The USA has this huge army budget that they have to spend, so we know another war is on the horizon, it's a cycle that we hoped was broken, until those Afghanistan and Irak war. Now we live in fear again. I don't find this funny AT ALL.

Well, I'll go back to my good mood after this rant.
I remember I was invited to Alabama by one beautiful blonde girl student who was in France some years ago. I was amazed, as from her side, there would have been no problem for me going there in her family. I guess I can never discover this beautiful country, as I'm no guy to compromise, and I'm sure I'd make myself killed or go to prison if I were to go to the USA.
Given the people you're bound to encounter in the streets, I can't take that risk, as I love to talk with the locals when I go on a journey, and I hate guided tours.
Sad...

There is so much ignorance in your post I don't know where to start really -- perhaps your ridiculous claim that a "majority" of Americans reelected Bush or that Americans don't listen to intelligent people. Yes, there are plenty of idiots around. I've met idiots in every country I've been to and every state I've been to. But big deal; you really can do something like this in just about any country; perhaps not with the exact same material, but something similar. And one of the questions they ask is incorrect BTW. They ask the guy where KFC started and intimate it is Kentucky, which is incorrect (the first KFC opened in Salt Lake City, Utah as a matter of fact).

@ookaze,

You're likely the reason people hate the French.

I don't hate them, I'm french blooded myself, actually I love the french, especially the girls :)

I don't hate any country or race or religion. Jerks and idiots are everywhere in the world. Not all americans are like these people... and I'm sure these ones are good people.

This thread screams for a lock.

It's good to see that people in Europe can see through the German and French quite vocal claim of pacifism during the initial days of Iraq for what it really was... a protection of their own interests.

I'm not saying that the war is right or that the US should be involved, just that we should call a spade a spade and the Germans and French were just trying to hold onto their ridiculous Fuel for Oil program that was providing their countries with super-cheap oil on the backs of the Iraqi citizens.

15 grand I wish the University I graduated from was 40k a year tuition and the college by brothers is in now is higher than that. I would say average tuition is reaching for 25k a year
