I think it's funny... I've been in america a few times (my mother works there), and by my experience (and my mother's as a teacher in an atlanta's high school) is this: In general, Americans have a lower level of education than Europe (my mother has been working 4 years, and maybe she will move there). I said, in general, and there is not so much difference. ¿Why? Educational system is different. In europe it's more "social". In general, high level education is free (a public university in spain costs 700€ a year), and a higher percentage of people goes to college. In school, we don't have things like bowling as subjets (my mother's high school has it). All of them are "more" serius, whatever we want to be in the future. In america education is more... i don't know the english word... more... elite. I mean, bright or rich students get an awesome high level formation, the rest get nearly nothing. Here it's different, we all get nearly the same (this, of course, has it's flaws, as the better students don't get what they deserve). My mother has brought some american students to spain for exchange and some things were just as hilarious as this video, seriously! (if you ask me later, maybe I'd tell you some of them). With this said... This video could be from anywere... In fact, in a spanish TV program they showed once some people who didn't even know who was our presindent... they tought it was another one (of another party!). You can find dumb people anywere, anytime. France is no exception (I've in france for 20 days this summer). For example, I had to cover my nose in the subway, as no one seemed to had a shower in the morning (and this does not happen in america!!). And well, ookaze... your government said "no" to war, but it wasn't for the greater good of humanity... it was because you had interests there. "Surprisingly", the two countries who had the voice against the war, Germany and France, benefitted from the iraqui fuel... oh... surprise! Here in Spain, we were against the war, nearly 90% of the people, we marched against it, with huge manifestations (about 2 million people only in Madrid), but our government supported it, because our president was as stupid as G.W. Bush is. Maybe americans are getting the same as we got. If you don't like the political parties of your country, you don't vote. In america, only 50% of people voted, and of them 53% voted Bush... This is a total of 26,5% of american people supporting bush... You can't say "this is what america wanted" "this is what america believes". You don't need a high degree career to have common sense, and many of the people I met there (in America), didn't support bush, the war, or many of the things they see. They were good people, no way as dangerous as ookaze says. Open and well humoured. And yes, I've seen much more cops here in spain (or france), than in atlanta or new york. In fact, at least in spain, if we could have guns, I assure you there would be a criminal ratio higher than NY's bronx In my opinion, the only thing europeans tend to see the USA as "dangerous ignorants" is because their army is greater than ours... and we, europeans, as we are in possession of our "superior moral code", don't like it (call it envy) This is only my opinion, I could be wrong. |
