I just watched it and I thought that it was pretty good.

I watched it this evening. I'd give it 8, maybe 8.5.

It's actually a good movie.

Starts slow as they provide background for both Kirk and Spock, however once that's done the film really gets going. If anything, they've worked from the original series rather than TNG and the spinoffs, which is a good thing if you ask me. And the way they transition from the last scene to the credits made me shiver ^ ^. It's Star Trek, as engaging as it's ever been since the 60's.

It was good, though I'm not a Trekkie. The Trekkie guy that went with us liked it though (except for a few minor things) since it was an alternate reality.

I had a few problems with it, like the random Camero in the beginning. That scene was just pointless and had no reason to be there. It didn't help show that Kirk was a rebel because the next scene he's in does it just fine.

*************SPOILERS AHEAD*************************

The bit between Spock and Ehora (however you spell her name) was just...weird and all of a sudden. One second Spock is angry in an elevator and then BAM they're kissing. I don't know Star Trek too well, but isn't the chick supposed to be with Kirk? I guess it's the whole alternate universe thing.

Then of course there's the Spock shooting Kirk off on the ice planet. It made a nice way of showing us old Spock and Scotty (and I love Simon Pegg) but the situation was just retarded. Hey guys, we're in a hurry but lets slow down and jettison this guy rather than put him in the brig, OK? That alone should have been enough to prove Spock was a little emotionally unstable, or, you know, his planet getting destroyed.

And about destroying the planet. I know it makes a cool implosion effect when you place a black hole in the middle of a planet, but why drill in the first place? If drilling means you have to take enough time for an entire fleet to scramble and travel halfway across the galaxy to get to you, why not just place the black hole next to the planet? It would do the same damn thing...

And speaking of the black hole, if it's powerful enough to implode a planet in seconds, why can a giant sphere of the red matter not destroy that ship almost instantly rather than taking a good five minutes?

Anyways, had some gripes with the movie but I still liked it. I hope they kill Sylar and make this the new Star Trek series.
