According to listings on the internet and MSI's CPU-motherboard compatibility list, AMD will soon (within a month I'd say) be launching a wave of new 45nm, AM3 processors.

These will be based on the Propus (low-power quad-cores without L3 cache), Heka (tri-cores with L3), Rana (tri-cores without L3), Callisto (dual-cores with L3 which are made from a quad-core die) and Regor (true dual-core without L3) cores, all of which are Phenom II derivatives. "Athlon II" denotes lack of L3 and is not related to previous Athlons.

Codename Cores Clock Speed L2 Cache L3 Cache TDP
Athlon II X4 605e Propus 4 4x 2.3 GHz 4x512KB - 45W
Athlon II X4 600e Propus 4 4x 2.2 GHz 4x512KB - 45W
Phenom II X3 705e Heka 3 3x 2.5 GHz 3x512KB 6MB 65W
Phenom II X3 700e Heka 3 3x 2.4 GHz 3x512KB 6MB 65W
Athlon II X3 405e Rana 3 3x 2.3 GHz 3x512KB - 45W
Athlon II X3 400e Rana 3 3x 2.2 GHz 3x512KB - 45W
Phenom II X2 550 Callisto 2 2x 3.1 GHz 2x512KB 6MB 80W
Phenom II X2 545 Callisto 2 2x 3.0 GHz 2x512KB 6MB 80W
Athlon II X2 250 Regor 2 2x 3.0 GHz 2x512KB - 65W
Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2 2x 2.9 GHz 2x512KB - 65W
Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2 2x 2.8 GHz 2x512KB - 65W

Notable points:

- These are the first desktop 45W quad-cores.
- AMD will finally have some faster dual-cores. These should compete with the E7xxx and maybe the lower-clocked E8xxx series from Intel.
- AMD may actually make some money now since the dies used for these products are smaller so can be sold cheaper or at a greater margin.

Wow that should be very nice for cutting down power consumption and heat (good for overclocking, but meh).

I'll stick to my 125W phenom though. Screw the environment!

my q6600 has to be pretty brutal for power consumption. oh well.

Damn, 45W! But no L3 cache
Guess my 95W Phenom X4 9550 will hold a little longer.
