R/S is needed as well with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, as when just having the GBA inserted, certain Pokemon will appear.

Yes, it’s official now! We thought we would have to wait until Sunday for the Pokemon Sunday reveal, but that’s not the case! Both Yahoo! Japan and the official Japanese Pokemon hub site have confirmed the news. Both remakes are due to hit Japan sometime this fall. Big thanks to all that sent this in!

Whoa, that's cool. I'd never heard of that feature before. Does it work with Emerald? That's the only one I don't have out of the R/S/E series.

The bulky DS model (the first one) can, surprisingly, use the GBASP's charger. Has the same voltage and watt usage and everything. Plus a friend of mine at GameStop confirmed so when I asked him about it, as I knew it may have been the same charger model.

Hell yes.... HELL YES!!!! When i saw the title to the thread, my heart literally skipped a beat... why am i so excited for a remake!? I know why, because this was the generation i missed, and EVERYBODY bums me for what i missed out on. Omg this is going to be sweet, SoulSilver will be mine on day 1, and Platinum's just around the corner and...... i'm rambling on like a little girl.
This is the kind of feeling i want to get from E3, i'm just so freaking excited i could scream, but i wont, cause its kinda 4AM over here in London >.

Nintendo isn't discontinuing that model even though the DSi has been released. They are both different systems, and Nintendo KNOWS that some DS games use that GBA slot such as the Pokemon D/P/Pt and Guitar Hero.
