Forums - Sony - Infamous Demo Impressions

^the demo will be available in the PS store 1 week or so prior to the release. edit: and if you pre-order Infamous you're VERY likely to get a BETA VOUCHER FOR UNCHARTED 2 MULTIPLAYER, how's that for incentive??

I hate this give the demo to the people who are already buying the game business. Give the demo to those on the fence! It makes more sense!

The demo will be a public a week before the game comes out, no need to worry. They gave it to those who preordered as a reward: you preorder the game, you get a chance to play it earlier than anyone else. Makes sense to me.

I just downloaded and played the Infamous demo and I must say, if you liked the videos, you should LOVE the game. I'm posting about it, but I don't want to spoil anything specific about the demo for those who play, so excuse me if this seems a little vague. (We all knew you were going to LOVE it regardless, so let's just go huh-hum while reading this...)

Visuals

For visuals of the demo, I would say that they definitely support the artistic style that SuckerPunch were going for on the game. The cut scenes have the same comic book art style that the Sly Cooper games. Unfortunately, I don't have a HDTV (hmm, to be continued I guess) so I didn't get to see how great the visuals are on an HD spectrum but the game looked great on just SD. The greyish city sets the atmosphere and makes the villians and Cole just that much more distinguishable. (way too vague, tell us about animation, framerates, effects)

Gameplay

The climbing and the "flying" are really fun as well. I actually spent a few minutes just doing both of those things. It is way too easy to attach to certain objects but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome. You are good and evil at certain points, but I'm guessing that when you actually play the game, there will actually be fluctuation between the two depending on whether you do good or bad things for people. I personally just enjoyed shocking the hell out of everything. That's all I really needed to make me happy. (What? if that what sold you the game I'll stop reading right now. I need something a little deeper) I have to say, the powers are very fluid and easy to use. The GPS is very helpful. From the trailer at the end, there are a lot more powers available also it seems there is are ways to level up the powers you have in the demo, this isn't so much of a spoiler considering that the video is already available on Gametrailers.com. (how about challenge, is there any? do you get knocked down? do your powers ever run out? are the enemies something else than sitting ducks? Do any of the enemies have powers that can challenge yours or make some of your powers useless against them?)

Sound

Infamous so far has great sound in it. The music is very fitting for the mood of the game. The characters voice is rather raspy but seems to fluctuate throughout depending on whether he is good or evil. The people get repetitive when you are on a mission and it wants you to get the mission done, which can be annoying but otherwise I find it great. (hopefully, this will be good)

Overall

Overall, it's great, I can't wait until this game comes out and I hope that you guys like it as well. If anybody wants to leave their impressions, whether you love the demo or hate the demo, feel free to post in here. (just did)

To answer a few things, yes you have limited amount of energy you can use until you have to wait to recharge. yes it can be rather difficult, guys with guns, machine guns, rocket launchers, and some with powers they can kill you in a few hits.

I'm not sold on the game, hell I just got the code from work I didn't reserve it.  For me personally I'd say it's a very solid built game, though most games from suckerpunch are.  It's got a stable framerate, though a little pop-in, not really noticeable at night.  If I compared it to anything it'd be the open world super hero games.  Combat wise I enjoy Web of Shadows better then the combat in the demo, now if you ask me which I think is a better built and designed game, infamous is by far better built.

Game worth your while?  Do you like super hero-ish open world games?  Do you like doing more crazy moves or a 1 man army type guy?  Crazy fun combat go for Web of Shadows, you want to be a badass blowing shit up and frying baddies brains with a little more challenge then infamous is your game.

Hopefully MakingMusic or somebody else will post in here as well....not sure though.

Well if you're on the fence it's easy to me, if you like super hero games get it, it's solidly designed and seems like it has a pretty cool story.  If not just rent it and see how you like it :P

@Max and Axum thanks for your impressions.

For what I can gather from videos, previews and impressions, I think I'd like the game. The karma system, the power level-up system and the whole open world, story-driven missions are all very appealing to me. However, I'm still on the fence until the length of the game is known, as in number of missions, variety, and replay value in general (I think replay value can't be low because of the Karma system, but I'd still like to know how much does that change the game to warrant multiple playthroughs)

I preordered from Gamestop.com but I didn't get a code or anything. any body knows how to get ??

Ill hopefully get my hands on the demo tomorrow from a site that gives a few of them away to whomever lives in sweden.

Yeah, I preorder it from Gamestop too, but I haven't received a code yet.
