ps3 is using all new technology which is why it is vey expensive, the blu-ray itself is $200

Well obviously they should have left it out. It hurt sales more than it helped.

yeah sony made with ibm and toshiba.

but toshiba its the manufacturer now or the main the at least.

and everything in the ps3 is expensive.. i think GPU may be the cheapest part.

it have a gloss black case = expensive.

all come with HDD=  expensive.

1 ppu 3.2ghz +7 3.2ghz spu processor. 9 threads.

XDR 3.2Ghz main ram = VERY expensive.

nvidia RSX = its should be the cheapest to make its should be 45nm by now.

wifi and bluetooth = not expensive but cost extra $$.

and blu ray drive, it diode alone its over 50$

etc.

You're right with the Blu-Ray diode; it's around $50. Best Buy has Blu-Ray drives for computers that are around $50, maybe even less now... And rafichamp, Blu-Ray has SERIOUSLY fallen in price. It's not $200, it's around $50 or below right now. The highest price on the PS3 may be the Cell and and possibly the GPU (unless the die is smaller which would cost less).

This.

People need to understand that it wasn't just the BD drive... also the BD drive isn't even as expensive as it used to be...

Funny thing is in the xbox 360 wiki ibm said the 360 uses a modified cell processor and they were keepin it a secret from sony while developing it because sony was payin all the r&d money,so microsoft stole ps3's processor.they have a better graphics chip,a bettter online service and launched a year ahead, they lack blu ray, which sucks for compacity reasons but is better for developers in a production cost sense, now sony is goin under and microsoft is ahead of even wii in terms of software and content sales, looks like M$ did sony dirty.....real dirty.

Learn the difference between manufacturing price (which I have given) and production price. While manfacturing prices are relatively easy to estimate, production prices are not as they incorporate company decisions that are simply not available.

That is complete nonsense and borders on libel.
