Darkeden is the best free MMO I think i have been playing it on and off for about 5 to 6 years and im still pretty hooked

Guild Wars, and I think you can get the trilogy on Steam for cheap. It's a game that focuses on skill and balance over grinding, though the grinding is there if you're into that.
