Is it even hate, or is it just a general lack of confidence?

I mean, saying "the PS3 won't reach 10m" a few years ago doesn't seem any more off-base than saying "the PS3 will outsell the 360" now. It's all speculation based on little-to-no real data, just pessimism or optimism.

Now, saying "the PS3 will end this generation in dead last, according to a linear regression of its current trends," however, actually has a great deal of merit.

I think at this point the PS3 has become a parody of itself, and as a result gets opened mocked.  Even more entertaining is when "MGS4" or "KZ2" is supposed to quiet the detractors.  Quite simply, PS3 owners don't "get it."  They have become part of the joke.

Thanks for the awesome sweeping generalisation. Not just fanboys, but all PS3 owners. Here I was happy with a good console with lots of good games, not particularly phased by the 360 having higher sales currently, but yeah, totally agree with you, PS3 owners are jokes. Because being an epic 360 fanboy, thats just way cooler, and clearly shows all us PS3 owners that your net-penis is many times bigger than ours. I am truly humbled. I just wish I had the energy and time required to hate a piece of consumer electronics.

It's OK.  I'd be mad too if I spent $600 on a Bluray player when clearly digital distribution and holographic disks are the future.   If you bought it to play games, don't worry.  I'm sure they'll come out with something good eventually.

Stop getting so excited about a Kid Icarus remake... the original NES Icarus sucked.

I have no issues with you personally and I am sure you know this but come on now bro, this is getting very played out.

To claim that PS3 has no games, that it is a waste of money, etc... is stupid. They pumped out three 90+ games in the last 6 months with LBP, MLB 09 and KZ2. That is just 1st party.

If you ever played a PS1 or a PS2 you would know that claiming SONY has no "games" is just dumb. Just look at their 1st party credentials.

What is your PSN ID by the way?

Sorry to burst your bubble  "No I'm not"!!  Ps3 just aint selling.  Even with those average I've played alreaedy exclusives.  People who can afford $500,  Yes $400 for machine and $60 for exclusives + taxes.  I dont have to keep hating on a system that just for fans of Sony below average make you by it again games.

I'm a PS3 owner, too...  Lighten up.  It was an oversight on his part, but not entirely incorrect.  I DO feel like part of the joke when Sony strong armed me into being an early adopter by dropping backwards compatibility, and then awards the hit on my wallet with delusional PR promises.

That's why it's the $600 blu-ray player/part-time paperweight in my entertainment cabinet.

credentials?  I guess you loved those wonderful titles like War hawk,  Lair, F1 racing, Genji or those slow moving titles KZ2, Resistance 2.  Oh'  they had to pack in MGS4 to make sure it sold just enough.

I'm a gamer pal. I care about how good a game is, not it's sales. If that is what you use to judge "credentials" when it comes to studio quality then I see no point debating with you. I prefer talking to real gamers.

Killzone 2 is quality.

LittleBIGPlanet is quality.

MLB 09 The Show is quality.

Ratchet and Clank is quality.

inFamous is looking to be quality.

Resistance 2 was quality.

I can keep going but there is no point. I am saying that they make quality titles and your comeback is that some of them do not sell huge amounts? How does that in any way, shape or form mean that they are no good?

Thats your call to make, seems to me you're cutting off your own nose to spite your face though. I am quite relaxed too  thanks, just trying to understand how someone could hate a piece of plastic, silicon and metal. I'd rather focus my energy on something that actually affects me and my life, you know, but whatever.

If Sony have not released anything good for the PS3 by now, then It should be safe to say that Microsoft and Nintendo have not released anything good either.

WTF..... gamers this gen are spoiled as hell.

The answer to the original authors question is this. They were shocked silent by the incredible stupidity that came out of Sony. Nobody could foresee how utterly reckless the management at Sony would actually be in regards to the console market. Sony has lost somewhere close to six billion dollars on their machine at this point. Nobody could imagine that Sony was willing to eat the losses no matter what they were. So nobody expected Sony to offer two radical price reductions in less then a year.

Sony had to of coarse, because the detractors were right. The market could not support a six hundred dollar game console, and the market for the console flagged. Then the detractors were right about the five hundred dollar price point, and once again the sales flagged. Finally Sony bled their way to a price the market would support. The detractors were right the launch system, and the high pricing would have killed the console within its first year. What they had not predicted was that Sony was dangerously incompetent with money.

That is most assuredly not something to be ashamed about, or to call someone out on. There was no way anyone could have predicted how illogical Sony would behave this generation. Nothing Sony did made any real sense, and it still does not make any real sense. Hell as a matter of fact it still stands a decent chance of being considered the downfall of Sony. Depending how long this recession lasts it could in fact end up being what killed the company, or at the least crippling the company for a good number of years. The console bled the company leading up to the recession, and now with a recession there can be no recovery from that.

Hell it doesn't even meet the criteria for a Phyrric victory. Sony won nothing in fact they poured in resources only to be beaten into a retreat. With losses that could very well undo the company in the course of things. The author speaks of faith, but that is what a problem gambler relies upon. We know how often that kind of thinking wins out. It had no place in the discussion, and it sure as hell had no place in the thinking.

For the rest of the comments they are utter nonsense. I wouldn't substitute the 360 content for the PS3 content. It is larger, more diverse, and has more highly acclaimed titles. A resurgence is all but impossible. Short of Sony throwing another six billion dollars at the problem the contest has been decided. Sony does that in the current economic climate, and you can wave goodbye to the company. The lenders would descend in mass.

It is no longer a question of will. The question is does Sony have the means. Beyond cannibalizing the company their is no way to get the money they need.
