Forums - General - Ricky Gervais explaining how he became an Atheist

That was kinda interesting.

Too bad the editing of the video was about as bad as they get.

I like how he says that he has no problem with people believing in god, but has a huge problem with religion. I also agree with the statement that life as an accident can be beautiful.

I love Ricky Gervais's stand up on "Animals" when he speaks about the bible. That explains his Atheism well too.

I agree, I physically can't believe in a god. I know I could be wrong and that I, like everyone else, have no authority on the creation of the universe. But I know deep down that no god exists.

But I guess everyone has their own theology.

omg, that was hilarious! his live stuff is great, i love The Office and Extras too!

Kind of interesting, though it always amazes me when it's refered to as an accident. Initial cause maybe. Evolution and natural selection are the exact opposite of an accident.

Theres no downside to believing in God really. Theres only upside. What do people possibly gain from being atheist? Nothing, that's what.

On average atheists make more money and donate a smaller percentage of their earnings to charity.

So there is quite the financial gain.

Also, you get to watch football on sundays, can eat meat whenever you want... there are some advantages.

please only make statements like this if you can back them up, if you can, then fine, but otherwise, dont post it

youll probably find that many charitys are faith based, so atheists dont support them on the basis of that, for instance, a christian charity may not supply contraception in 3rd world countrys, why should an atheist and/or someone who is pro-contraception support that charity?

its interesting. I always thought i was agnostic and i will probably decide on atheism later on but for the time being, at least, i am interested in exploring what particular faiths offer.

Specifically, i am interested in Islam and Buddism although i am too lazy to ever bother really exploring either in any significant manner, maybe one day. Islam because of terrorism, and this perceived religious/regional divide, and Buddhism because it seems quite peaceful.

I've backed that up like 10 times on this site.  They've done studies on both.

Atheists make about 10% more income.

Relgious Conservatives donate the most time, money and blood to charity then liberal democrats... with religion playing the bigger factor of the two.

@Kasz216, this thread about politics is it?

ok, what about the rest of my post?

as a liberal, im in favour of more government aid for 3rd world countries, so thats similar to charity as im in favour of helping the same people, just through different means.
