Some clever stealth trolling there Kasz =P

I also had faith as a child, nobody ever pushed it on me (Dads an atheist and my mum is at most very very weakly religious) but I was given a bible as a little kid and saw no reason not to believe in it, same as Santa and the Tooth Fairy.

I grew up and started thinking and by the age of about eight I just considered it to be a book of fairly interesting stories (specially the walls of Jericho, loved that one).

Also atheism isn't a religion because it lacks dogma (to be an atheist requires no belief in things such as evolution, its just the logical conclusion if you don't believe in god, also in science everything is questionable) and it lacks a belief in the supernatural (some atheists may believe in the supernatural but once again it is certainly not required).

Right... I name 4 postives to being an atheist.  One of them some people see as not a benefit because it's something looked down opon by some people (though still a benefit) and it's steal trolling.

You people really need to give it a rest and stop reading in to shit.

actually, i think he has a point, if i went into a thread and said "religous people are more selfish than atheists" id expect to get flamed and probably a warning from a mod

funny, how both online and sometimes in real life, its ok for people to insult atheists, but insulting religous people will mean you get attacked, seems like double standards to me

this isnt a specific attack on you kasz, more over its an attack on the system that seems to exist both online and offline, its ok to insult one group of people but not another, i see at as being wrong either way

an example is this: (not neccesarily happened on this forum, but definetley i have seen this happen on other forums i use)

Person 1: Atheists are scum (no action from a mod)
Person 2: Jews are scum (banned, probably permanantley)

the above is just an example, meaning, i dont hate jews, far from it, but im illistrating a point here

see my point, why can people insult my atheism, when i cant insult there religion?

either both are ok, or both are wrong, imo, its the later.

I didn't insult atheists.  I gave reasons that i believe Coolest Guy Ever would think would be benefits to being an atheist.

Reasons that are all true.  "Atheists are Scum" and "Jews are scum" are opinions.  Everything i stated is backed up by the scientific research.

From previous posting history it would seem that Coolestguyever would enjoy making more money (who doesn't want to make more money), not going to work when football games are on (Eagles logo), eating meat whenever he wants (has insulted vegetarians) and not feel like compelled to help others.  (various posts i seem to remember him making.)

People only had a problem with one because they view it as a negative towards society as a whole.  However the reality is often time personal positives are negative to society as a whole.

Well even if you see it as a negative... which it kinda only is if you look at the short term picture... as changes made by slow changing of behavior tend to be more effective vs changes made by laws. (both physical and otherwoldly.)

Agnostic and atheist are not necessarily exclusive terms, I consider myself both.

I do not believe there is a god (which is atheism) but I do not know there is no god. Agnosticism is the belief that it is not possible to know whether or not god exists, atheism is the lack of belief in god(s) which I also have.

Agnosticism is about knowing whether god exists or not and atheism is about believing whether god exists or not.

So I don't know god doesn't exist, I just think its highly unlikely.

Anyway, I respect Ricky geravis, ghost town was a fantastic movie. He's just a good guy that believes differently than me. I would've probably been atheist if I had grown up into an atheist family. It's all about where you come from.

Everyone is "born Atheist". You don't become atheist. You can realize that you've been led into religion and choose to 'discard' it and go back to atheism/agnostisism. No offence. :/

Well not if you believe you were born Christian. See? It works both ways. It's what you believe in that affects this.
