Forums - Sony - Video Processing Face Off (includes PS3)

I was just over at the Sony site and someone has posted a link to a article talking about DVD upscaling and Blu-ray. And how the PS3 is one of the best players on the market.

Sony site: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1958548

Original article: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/autumn_2007_video_shootout/

"When it comes to DVD upsampling, it’s hard not to be impressed by the PlayStation 3. We think that it provides a superior output to NVIDIA and AMD’s technology and it even holds its own against the flagship HQV technology from Silicon Optix and Teranex. But that’s just for DVD playback"

"the PlayStation 3 represents an excellent stand-alone Blu-ray player"

"With PS3 in the $500 price range, about the same price as an a high-end HD DVD player, the console suddenly looks like a great bargain for anyone who can take advantage of upsampled DVD, Blu-ray playback, and an entire gaming console with exclusives like Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, and Metal Gear Solid 4."

Talking about the PS3 " its CD, DVD, and Blu-ray performance is stellar"

Hmm...the PS3 is a great bargain when you want to play games, movies, music, etc.  BUT for someone that just wants to play games, its a bit too much.  I have a PC that can do all of that and more.  I have a DVD and VCR for movies, a Wii for games and a radio for music.  When I buy a game console, I only want to play games on it.  So to me, I'm good.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

Why isn't HD-DVD in there if Blu-Ray is so called better?

Best everything pretty much sums up the PS3.

I don't think anyone has ever said that the technology behind the beast is anything but stellar.

The only problem is that for a video game device (its primary function), $600 is a lot.

Now, like a friend of mine did, if I had an HDtv and wanted a bluray player anyways, well the PS3 would be the best choice.

Except at selling itself apparently.

Kidding aside, hopefully the PS3 can carve out a niche somewhere in there to hold it over till the market changes.
