Forums - Sony - Rumour: PS4 Now In Development.. to be launched by 2012?

there really isnt much to develop. Cell V2, another Nvidia GPU, and a better Blu-ray drive. Maybe an SSD drive.

I'm shocked that there is still people that think that the ten year plan means Sony won't come out with another console until 2016? there just going to keep supporting the PS3 until 2016 like all the other platforms Sony came out with...

Now that I got that off my chest, 2012 seems like a good year. Sony is playing it smart, looks like there going back to the PS1, PS2 days when there console was plain, simple and plays great games.

But only 2 times as powerful as the PS3? wasn't the PS3 40 times more powerful then the PS2?

So it looks like there not going to focus on graphics for the PS4 (which isn't really that bad of an idea, it'd make things much simpler and cheaper for them) so they must be coming out with something new and different aswell, it can't be just a console twice as powerful as the PS3 and that's it, there must be something different there adding to it.

It sounds do-able and I kind of expect this to happen. Hell if Sony really wants to be first 2010/2011 isnt really out of the picture. The PS3 will still be able to have support until it's 10 year plan has seen it's end. PS4 will launch at a $299.99 price point between the years 2010-2012

lol, you think that A] sony will come out with a new console next year(2010), which by itself is completely absurd, and B] it will be cheaper or as cheap as the ps3. and you also think the ps3 would then be supported until 2016. nothing in your post makes any sense. fail. :D

Rumour: The sun will rise tomorrow...

Of course the PS4 is in develpoment. Dev started on the PS4 as soon as it stopped on the PS3. It's not as if they give their hardware team a 2 year holiday

Yeah, I'm not sure why people think 10-year plan means no other consoles releases.  I will say this though...at this point, releasing a new ps console in 2012 would be problematic for continual support of ps3, unless there is more traction on gaining market share by the end of 2010.  I'm not saying developers won't support the ps3, it's just that developers have limited resources, and maximum ROI is the goal.  If the ps4 is going to be similar to the ps3 in programming for, this would be a plus, but if the nexbox and wii 2 are still much easier to program for, then those consoles would get the majority of developmental resources.

I didnt say anything of the sort I said IF Sony wanted to come out the gates first then 2010/11 would be the year to do it. My bet is a PS4 at $299-399 in 2011 (End of)- (Mid) 2012

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

If they want success, re-release PS2 with motion controls and call it a PS4.

I apologize, that was un-necessary.

2010 isn't out of the question. That's a solid 6 years after the PS3. And Sony releases a console every 6 years (1994, 2000, 2006, etc.). They should make it at most 25-50% more powerful than PS3, keep blu ray, and launch it at $300 at the very most.

It's the size of this console in the story that seems to fit the least.

PS1 was officially declared out of production March 23, 2006 - 9 months before the PS3 launched. PS1 was basically dead around 2002. I guess technically, it lasted more than 10 years.

The end of 2012 is about 3.5 years away. Components become cheap over time. I can definitely see PS4 breaking even from the start if it launches at 300-400. R&D will be minimal if similar architecture is used.

Nothing of much note came out on the PS1 after 2002.
