Is PS4 Now In Development?
According to reports, Sony is working on the successor to the PS3 3 years after their next-gen console was first first lauched.
Early specifacations for the new machine have been sent to developers in Japan so Sony can gather feedback and impressions from the people who will be making it's games.
The new console, essentially PlayStation 4, will (at most) be twice as powerful, and around the same size as Nintendo's Wii. Sony is pulling its finger out in an effort to beat Microsoft to the market. Sony recognises that even though Microsoft launched a relativly cheap machine in the Xbox 360, the very fact that it was first to launch allowed it to share a healthy chunk of the gaming market. Now Sony wants the first slice of the next-gen pie.
Sony wants to get PS4 out by around 2012, if not sooner which makes a mockery of its claims that PS3 would be the focus of attention for ten years after its release. A smaller machine would certainly help in the Japanese market (smaller consoles sell better there).
