Forums - General - Why dont you like football?!?!?

I like to play it. but watching it is boring as hell because nothing ever really happens. Just a bunch of guys kicking a ball around and not accomplishing anything. I think that's why it does so bad in America compared to other sports.

For the most part, Americans like physical contact, a fast pace, and/or a sense of accomplishment or intermediate goals. Baseball and american football have intermediate steps, basketball, and football have a fast pace, and hockey, football, and to a lesser extent basketball have physical contact. Football (soccer) has none of the above except for a very limited amount of physical contact. And I think that. coupled with the fact that the whole year is pretty much full up with the NCAA football and basketball tournaments, NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA is why football hasn't taken off in the US.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

I love football. Its the best sport in the world by far, way better than basketball eggball and baseball.

Us Canadians love football, its just that we never qualify for the world cup. We have a good enough youth system, but o well it will come some day.

I like football, but I guess I should, I live in a south american country, its our first sport, then tennis and then nothing that matters.

Dont worry, us chileans rarely acomplish anything too and we really fight to go to a WC, but when we do we learn to enjoy it.

O yes and sorry. To avoid any confusion im talking about soccer.

If you meant soccer, then you should have said soccer (or at least European football).

I've never cared for sports very much.  To this day, the only sports that I like to watch are MMA, competitive eating, and female Jello wrestling.

This post just made me realize that I was already a sports fan and didn't know it.

1. It's long - 90 minutes plus extra time at the end. Compare that to 48 for NBA, 60 for hockey, 60 for NFL, etc. Baseball is also too long.

2. Low scoring - Games tend to end with a max of maybe 4 goals combined. Its not a bad thing once in a while, but when its the majority of the time it gets boring.

3. Not many shots taken - Usually the defense is able to stop the shot before it happens and your lucky to see a lot of shots. Compare that to anywhere from 20-30 or more in hockey, like 100 in basketball, etc.

4. Players are sissies - I can't tell you how many times i've seen a guy get lightly bumped and he falls to the ground "in pain". At least if their soccer career doesn't go as planned they could always become actors.

5. The nets are HUGE - This is a small thing that bothers me but with a net that big you would think there would be like 10 goals a game per team. Your shooting a medium sized ball into a gigantic net it should be easy. In NBA the net is only twice the diametre of the ball and they manage 100 points a game.

It's just not accessible enough. I have an easier time finding coverage of the World Series of Poker, Golf, Bowling, Billiards and numerous other C-level events than finding a televised soccer game. There are also things about the sport itself that might keep me from getting really into it, but that is the biggest hurdle of them all.

Maybe because they play with their feet which is harder than with the hands, try even getting to the net when u are 20 meters away, its hard.

The other things are valid points, but for me football is better than those other sports, it may be 90 minutes, in some matches I wish there was more time, the scoring is low but way more relevant than in the other sports, a goal in football is golden.

And the desesperation u get when the other team is going to score and the joy u get when ur team scores is passion that ive only seen in this sport, and Im not talking about the magic some players do with their feet.
