I don't quite understand why people are assuming that a series that's only been on Playstation products is going to jump ship.

I don't know why people think Monster Hunter 3 is going to jump ship it's always been on Sony platforms!

I guess people love to start the speculation early. I guess I'd rather not jump the gun on thinking a game is jumping consoles. Its been happening a lot this gen though from what it seems like though. I guess wishful thinking is what really inspires the platform jump.

There's been SMT games on just about every platform dude : there was even one on the Xbox... the series whores itself out to every platform, in fact if you have the series on your console you might want to check it STV (sexually transmitted viruses)

So what you're saying is that All Shin Megami Tensei games are related to Persona? I'm not very familiar with the series personally. I'm basing all of my information off of the name "Persona." I always assumed Shin Megami Tensei was based on the people who made the game, not of the actual Persona series.

Persona is Shin Megami Tensei basically.  Just a slight change in focus on how the interaction with demon.

Something like the difference between FF10 and FF12.  But not even that drastic...

The Wii seems to be the most logical choice for Persona 5, since it's easier to develop for and costs less to develop for than the PS3. Furthermore, Persona is a game that relies heavily on its art style, so having more realistically rendered people isn't a must, since it's usually a hand-drawn portrait that does the talking. And considering the Wii is about twice as powerful as the PS2, I think that leap in visual power is good enough.

That said, I would love to see it on the PS3 with really nice cel-shaded graphics like Tales of Vesperia's. But in either case, this is still a rumor from a totally random blog site that has multiple spelling and grammatical errors, so as a huge Persona fan I'm wary of getting my hopes up.

See this isn't  necessarily true. The only thing that rises costs are really nice graphics. We already know that not all developments spend the money on the PS3 or 360. So, Disgaea 3, despite being on the PS3, is likely to near the same budget of Disgaea 1 and 2.

I say this because Atlus will not be pushing any graphical boundaries regardless of platform.

Was the move more of a business decision, perhaps reflective of a feeling that the PS2 has one foot in the grave and it's time to move on?

No, not at all. In fact, if we consider the install base of PS2 and PS3, PS2 is financially a far less risky platform to release on. However, in order to provide our fans with the best gaming experience, we wanted to release Disgaea 3 for PS3.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/joystiq-interview-nis-america-talks-disgaea-3s-ps3-move/

---------

They had to enhance the engine and sprites to HD levels. That alone would make the budget much higher than the first two games.

Of course the PS3 is more risky than the PS2! The series is guaranteed to do well with the same costs. The only cost of importance would be the engine, but as we saw, it still wasn't expensive and it did break even.

If NIS was truly not pleased, then we wouldn't have 2 more PS3 exclusives from NIS. (one published and one developed)

Explain why the only translation of this then is that NIS was unhappy with it.

http://nippon1.co.jp/news/pdf/2008/20080208.pdf

They spend something liek a year on PS3 studying before they even made Disgaea 3.  Stopping at one PS3 game would be a giant wase.

It's like when  I game doesn't make money yet they make a sequel on the same engine to try and recoup costs.

WOW!!! you took that WAY too seriously. I was just using a recent example of my point. If you don't want comments such as this pulled up then say something about the constant "It should be on Wii/PSP/DS, it will do better" comments in every thread about a game coming to PS3. And brings up every hardcore game? on the Wii? News flash, SuperMario Galaxy, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Zelda TP, SSBB, etc are not Hardcore games, they are casual.

I could have said something like LocoRoco for PSP's horrible sales or something similar. I simply chose a different extremity. I wasn't trying to single that one out as in to mock Wii fans.

Since when are those games casuals?

SMG and Brawl are both casual games in the same sense that Halo and Madden are casual games. They are as mainstream as you can get.

Zelda is the only one you have a case for.

So the opinion would be.... Wii can't sell hardcore games because when they're on the Wii they sell so well they become casual?

Not what i think cloud meant to argue.

Truth is... no one knows where P5 would sell best.  It's hard to even argue unless you base it on install base... and even then with such huge nets and such a small amount of fish to catch... it's hard to make any conclusions.

Hence why the cheaper the system the better.

Not if it sells as great as Muramasa did on this cheaper system :)

Cherry picking FTW. The game will be like Vanillaware's second best selling game once it comes over here and EU. The game had Vanillaware's second best opening, only Odin Sphere on PS2 beating it. It's a new IP too.

Now how about if I use examples of RPGs with dedicated fanbases on the Wii? Like, I don't know, DQS (second best selling RPG this gen) or ToS: DotNW (beat out ToV and every other 360 RPG sales in Japan)?

That's like saying, "I'm the smartest guy in the room.  I am awesome!" while in a room full of children.  :P

You can cherry pick your examples all you want, yet despite Wii being alfa and omega of jRPG systems (according to people on VGC at least) somehow developers don't come swarming to the system.

One of the best JRPG series of all time. It is right at home on a SONY platform, too, as it started there. Here is hoping it is true. TGS is more likely, tho.

Playing and finishing games first>>>>>>>>>>Then talking!

Opinions are subjective and just like moods, can change.

TOP 12: Deus Ex, Shadow Man, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturn, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Metroid Prime, Zelda (series), Uncharted (series), FF Tactics, Persona (series), Demons Souls, Vagrant Story.

MOST WANTED: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Last Guardian, ICO/Shadow OTC HD

It started on NES, old discussion is old.  Persona is just an branch in the series that's been on the leading platform for 2 gens.

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

It'll do quite well. But what will be impressive are its sales as they are, and not its sales in comparison to games released on the 360 (in Japan).
