They announced an exclusive Shin Megami Tensei game....

in 2005.

I mean maybe that game could of been in production for 4 years...

seems... really unlikely though.

Pretty far fetched.

Well......Magna Carta 2 just came back to life, so anything could happen I guess.  But you're probably right.

Don't forget Ni-oh! That got brought back from the dead too!

Not gonna happen.

Why?(knew this topic would attract you)

I'll take a stab at this also. SMT (and by extension, Persona) is Atlus' main series. I can't really see their first foray into the PS3 as a SMT game, given the notorious difficulty of working with the cell processor. If Atlus were going to release a SMT game on the PS3, they would have done some smaller projects on the system to get used to working with the cell. The fact that there has been no development at all for the PS3, nor any news on the supposed SMT game from 2005, indicates that I don't think Atlus is heavily looking at the system at present. They are listed with Sony as a developer for the PS3, though, so as to not close off their options.

But for the immeadiate time given, the most likely option is the Wii or the PS2, assuming it stays on the home console. It is known that developing for the Wii is cheaper than either the PS3 or 360. (I'm not going to get into how much, since we don't have definitive information.) And regarding the PS2, all the tools are already in place, further reducing their costs even moreso than the Wii. As has been pointed out, though, the PS2 games are diminishing in sales; by the time that P5 would come out for the PS2, would there still be enough of a market to buy the game, or, even the stores willing to carry new PS2 games? Also, Atlus Japan has experience in working with both the PS2 and the Wii platforms. If they really wanted to go HD, they'd be more likely to approach their US division, who has worked on 360 games, to get some insight into the platform. But given Atlus' financial position, the engine would still need to be made, and I don't think they can afford to wait and make an expensive HD engine.

Now, Atlus can't exactly sit around and do nothing. They know this, and they're not. Which brings me to what I think the most viable option for the series is- portables. Atlus has a fair amount of experience on the DS already. In addition, an engine is already in place with Devil Survivor. Flipping things over to the PSP side, Persona debuts this week. Admittingly, I do not know if it is built from the ground up with a new engine, or if it is a pseudo-emulation version of the PS1 game (which the PSP is known to be able to to do); if the latter is true, it may be to test the market to see if it's worth making an engine for. Should Atlus only look at the Japanese market (which is logical for a Japanese company), it's a crapshot to guess whether they would lean to DS or PSP, given how well both are doing in Japan. If Atlus looks more globally (and considers the potential revenue stream from Atlus USA), I would give the nod to the DS version, but not rule out a PSP version.

tl,dr: Not coming out for the PS3. 360 highly doubtful. Wii and PS2 iffy. PSP likely, DS slightly moreso.

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

the exclusive to ps3 part is kind of redundant. that's too bad though because i would buy it if it was on the 360. p4 on ps2 was pretty enjoyable. guess i'm outta luck

I just want to add this.

Sony has been in talk with ‘Atlus Co.’ to bring their famous Playstation 2 title ‘Persona‘ exclusively on Playstation 3 and on E3 it will be officially announced.

If this is true Sony is funding the game.

here's the LINK

Of course not, that's why it's a rumor.

We'll hear all kinds of crazy stuff as we nearer to E3.

And that's his opinion. You seem to think that this is completely out of the question.

Both are viable viewpoints.
