Forums - Gaming - What is the point of making games/parts of games so hard even on easy?

Nothing makes me want to throw my controller into the wall and splinter it into a thousand pieces than a game that seems to be hard just for the sake of being hard.  I'm all for varying levels of difficulty, but why call a difficulty level in your game "easy" or "casual" if it's still freakin' tough?  Some examples for me are the Resistance series.  I have to play them on the easiest difficulty or I die constantly.  I still die from time to time on the easiest as well.  What's up with that?  I can play many other FPS on at least the normal difficulty without this problem.  Another example is Gears of War.  I don't know what the difficulty is like on the 360, but I'm playing it on the PC.  I still get shredded sometimes even on the casual difficulty.  I'm at the end fighting Raam and I just can't do it.  I've let loose strings of words that would have made George Carlin blush.  As a developer, why would you spend all of the time and money to create something I might never get to see in its entirety?

What games just completely have you seeing red?

Well games are meant to challenge you, I hate cake walk games but to answer you question...Street Fighter series always has a weird jump in difficulty

TBH Resistance isn't that hard, it just isn't played the same way as other FPS games. You have to learn the trick.
Not only that, but the medium/hard setting are not much more difficult.
It's all about the play style, you can't just run in like other games.

THe reason for this is that the game is providing a feel. Sure you want to play a game the way you want to play it, but R doesn't want to give you that. R is just not the title for you perhaps?

Don't misunderstand.  I think Resistance is awesome.  I just suck at it on anything other than the easiest difficulty.  Sometimes I suck at it then too.

It's just that there are tricks to resistance, much like there are tricks to any game. One of them is that there are certain invisible checkpoints or actions that cause the setting to change.
For example, when you push in on the enemy in some levels, teammates will pop out.

Also, sometimes if the dev doesn't want you to go a certain way, he will make all the enemies in that area extremely strong and accurate. The trick is to go around them or use the environment.

Kind of like when you went on the side of the road in old racing games you would take damage.

You really have to poke around to find the best way.

I myself spent a lot of time trying to attack one area and died like 9 times, so instead I went a different route and saw the save symbol show up and those guys I was trying to kill got hit by an air-raid and blew up.

I am playing R2 on hard and I dont find it that difficult. There were a couple of points that I did a few times, but its what theproof said, you have to find the right way to do it.

Is this because some parts of smg are harder than others?

ninja gaiden and cod 4 on the hardest difficulty

Try playing Ninja Gaiden on ther hardest difficult, is next to impossible! and the Ninja diffcult it's not exactly what you may call your average "easy"

^Ninja gaiden is so rewarding on hard mode. Just like God of war
